Although anomalies of the celiac and/or superior mesenteric arteries are occasionally encountered during abdominal surgery, anomalous venous confluence is seldom reported during pancreatic surgery. Herein, we present a rare case of laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy (LSPDP) for the treatment of a solid pseudopapillary neoplasm in an asymptomatic 37-year-old male with an anomalous splenic vein (SpV) confluence. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) revealed an anomaly of the SpV, which coursed transversely through the superior border of the pancreas, over the celiac artery and into the portal vein, along the superior line of the common hepatic artery.

Here, we report the case of an elderly Japanese man with ATTR amyloidosis who presented with rare gastrointestinal symptoms. An 84-year-old Japanese man was referred to our hospital because of anemia and positive fecal occult blood test results.

It is difficult to identify during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) without the use of intraoperative cholangiography (IOC). A modified IOC, in which tube insertion was performed through the infundibulum of the gallbladder, was evaluated dynamically.

Herein, we present a case of robot-assisted surgery for interposed jejunal pouch (IJP) dysfunction in a 79-year-old male, occurring 25 years after the initial PG for gastric cancer. The patient had chronic anorexia for 2 years and was treated with medications and dietary guidance; however, 3 months prior to admission his quality of life had reduced, owing to worsening symptoms.

About one year after the surgery, bulging of the wound and pain appeared. His chest computed tomography showed an image of the right upper lobe protruding from the thoracic cavity through the right second intercostal space, and the patient was diagnosed as having an intercostal lung hernia and the surgical treatment was performed using a unsintered hydroxyapatite and poly-L-lactide (u-HA/PLLA) mesh plate and monofilament polypropylene (PP) mesh.

We have defined an IOC that does not open the cystic duct as a modified IOC. Modified IOC methods include the percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) tube method, the infundibulum puncture method, and the infundibulum cannulation method.

A 46-year-old male with a massive hematemesis was transported to our hospital by ambulance. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated large gastric varices.

Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF)-drugs are used to treat AMD patients; however, some patients are resistant to these therapies.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-angiogenic effects of α2-adrenergic agonists, including guanabenz and clonidine.
Management of splenomegaly with thrombocytopenia is important in the treatment of portal hypertension. We propose a new concept: "Splanchnic Caput Medusae" in which enlarged spleen is her face and portal collateral pathways are her snake hairs. We report 2 demonstrable cases who were treated based on this new concept.

This open-label, multicenter, randomized phase III trial was conducted as a prospective pooled analysis to investigate the non-inferiority of 3 versus 6 months of adjuvant oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy.
Patients And Methods: From 12 February 2014 to 31 January 2017, 525 Asian patients with high-risk stage II colon cancer were randomly assigned to 3- and 6-month treatment arms.

It has been suggested that the efficacy of emedastine difumarate in allergic rhinitis is mediated through a combination of chemical mediator release inhibitory effects and eosinophil chemotaxis inhibitory effects, in addition to a strong anti-histaminic effect. In the pharmacological evaluation on histamine-induced vascular hyperpermeability in rats, ALLESAGA TAPE showed an anti-histaminic effect in a dose-dependent manner and exhibited a long-lasting anti-histaminic effect until 24 hours after administration.

We examined five PPAR-γ agonists, including four thiazolidinediones (ciglitazone, troglitazone, rosiglitazone and pioglitazone) and an angiotensin-II receptor blocker (telmisartan), for their ability to upregulate filaggrin and loricrin expression at both mRNA and protein levels in cultured normal human keratinocytes (NHKs). Troglitazone, rosiglitazone, pioglitazone and telmisartan significantly increased filaggrin expression at both mRNA and protein levels in calcium-induced differentiated NHKs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFrom a series of studies on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the bovine growth hormone (GH) gene of Japanese Black cattle, the type-C (127(Val) and 172(Met) ) that is specific for this breed has been intensively focused upon because of the economic importance for carcass traits, such as intramuscular oleic acid contents. In the present study, we intended to analyze the 3-D structure of GH of haplotype C, and developed a novel method to detect the type C gene. Three-D analysis of the type C protein showed that the amino acid residues (127(Val) and 172(Met) ), which are present in the third and fourth helixes, respectively, and are important for binding with GH receptors, are shifted to deeper positions in the molecule compared with that for type A (127(Leu) and 172(Thr) ), implying the alteration of binding interaction with receptors.
