- The study aimed to assess prevalence rates of pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs) among school-aged children and investigate the potential impact of thimerosal-containing vaccines (TCVs) on these rates.
- A total of 23,635 children from kindergarten to Grade 11 were surveyed, revealing a prevalence of 79.1 PDDs per 10,000 students, with a significant increase over time unrelated to the cessation of TCVs in 1996.
- The findings suggest that approximately 11,500 Canadian children aged 2 to 5 have a PDD, but the study could not identify the causes of the increasing prevalence trend.
