Article Synopsis
  • Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC) and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) are debilitating conditions with shared symptoms like exercise intolerance and autonomic dysfunction, and their prevalence is increasing.
  • A clinical trial involving healthy individuals, those with PASC, and those with mild to moderate ME/CFS showed that 8 weeks of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) led to significant improvements in muscle pressure, walking distance, heart rate, and sleep symptoms across all groups.
  • Notably, participants with ME/CFS also experienced enhanced vascular function and reduced pain symptoms, indicating that IMT may offer beneficial effects for those suffering from both PASC and

Article Synopsis
  • - Current microvascular assessments are often impractical due to the need for experienced personnel and expensive equipment, prompting a need for alternative methods like piezoelectric transducers for measuring microvascular function.
  • - In a study with 25 adults, researchers compared the effectiveness of piezoelectric transducers and EndoPAT in measuring microvascular function using reactive hyperemia tests, analyzing blood pressure wave signals from fingers.
  • - The results showed a significant correlation between the Microvascular Function Index (MFI) from piezoelectric transducers and the Reactive Hyperemia Index (RHI) from EndoPAT, suggesting that MFI is a reliable, user-friendly alternative for assessing vascular health.

Women experience fluctuating orthostatic intolerance during the menstrual cycle, suggesting sex hormones may influence cerebral blood flow. Young (aged 18-30) healthy women, either taking oral contraceptives (OC; n = 14) or not taking OC (NOC; n = 12), were administered hypercapnic gas (5%) for 5 min in the low hormone (LH; placebo pill) and high hormone (HH; active pill) menstrual phases. Hemodynamic and cerebrovascular variables were continuously measured.
