Article Synopsis
  • The study examines charged particle production in proton-lead and proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5 TeV, focusing on how it varies with pseudorapidity and transverse momentum.
  • It finds that charged particle production is suppressed in proton-lead collisions compared to proton-proton in the forward region, while there's an increase in the backward region for higher transverse momentum values.
  • These findings provide valuable insights into nuclear parton distribution functions (PDFs) and saturation models, especially at low parton momentum fractions down to 10^{-6}.

Introduction: Rates of perinatal cannabis use are rising, despite clinical evidence about the potential for harm. Accordingly, pregnant and lactating people who perceive a benefit from cannabis use may have a difficult time making informed decisions about cannabis use.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review of mixed-methods research to synthesize existing knowledge on the perspectives of pregnant people and their partners about cannabis use in pregnancy.

Article Synopsis
  • Variceal hemorrhage is a critical medical issue treated with endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) and terlipressin, but the necessity of terlipressin after EVL is uncertain.
  • In a pilot study with 74 patients, two groups received terlipressin for 2 or 5 days, while a control group received saline, showing similar rates of re-bleeding and mortality across all groups.
  • The study concluded that continuing terlipressin post-EVL does not seem beneficial, as it was linked to increased adverse drug reactions and longer hospital stays, suggesting a need for further research on its efficacy.

Background: Severe alcoholic hepatitis (SAH) presenting as acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) carries a high short-term mortality. Alteration of gut microbiota is a crucial component implicated in its pathogenesis, whose modulation has been suggested as a potential therapeutic tool. We evaluated the safety of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and its efficacy in improving short-term survival and clinical severity scores in patients with SAH-ACLF.

Article Synopsis
  • * Data was collected using the LHCb detector with a total of 6 fb^{-1} at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV.
  • * An increase in the fraction of charm jets is noted at higher rapidity levels of the Z boson, suggesting the presence of an intrinsic charm component within the proton.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with neuropsychiatric changes. Also, patients with cirrhosis may develop overt or minimal hepatic encephalopathy. Sustained virological response (SVR) with direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) may improve the neuropsychiatric manifestations and quality of life (QoL).

An amplitude analysis of flavor-untagged B_{s}^{0}→J/ψpp[over ¯] decays is performed using a sample of 797±31 decays reconstructed with the LHCb detector. The data, collected in proton-proton collisions between 2011 and 2018, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. Evidence for a new structure in the J/ψp and J/ψp[over ¯] systems with a mass of 4337_{-4}^{+7} _{-2}^{+2}  MeV and a width of 29_{-12}^{+26} _{-14}^{+14}  MeV is found, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, with a significance in the range of 3.

Branching fraction and effective lifetime measurements of the rare decay B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-} and searches for the decays B^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-} and B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-}γ are reported using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. The branching fraction B(B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-})=(3.09_{-0.

Background: Gastrointestinal candidiasis is often neglected and potentially serious infection in cirrhosis patients. Therefore, we evaluated the prevalence, risk factors, and outcomes of esophageal candidiasis (EC) in cirrhotics and did a systematic review to summarize EC's available evidence in cirrhosis.

Methods: Consecutive patients with cirrhosis posted for esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) at a tertiary care institute were screened for EC (cases) between January 2019 and March 2020.

Twitter provides an opportunity to examine misperceptions about nicotine and addiction as they pertain to electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). The purpose of this study was to systematically examine a sample of ENDS-related tweets that presented information about nicotine or addiction for the presence of potential misinformation. A total of 10.

Background: The burden of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) appears to be increasing in India and may be related to the double burden of malnutrition. The population-based incidence and risk factors of GDM, particularly in lower socio-economic populations, are not known. We conducted analyses on data from a population-based cohort of pregnant women in South Delhi, India, to determine the incidence of GDM, its risk factors and association with adverse pregnancy outcomes (stillbirth, preterm birth, large for gestational age babies) and need for caesarean section.

The contamination of water bodies by toxic industrial effluents is a serious threat to environment and the exposed organisms. The treatment of carcinogenic azo dyes in wastewater of grossly polluting textile industry is a major challenge considering the persistent nature of chemical dyes against biological treatment. The present study explores efficacy of advanced oxidation processes-photocatalysis and photo-Fenton, towards degradation of Remazol Red dye in the textile industry effluent.

Article Synopsis
  • Men with low-risk prostate cancer are increasingly choosing active surveillance (AS) instead of immediate treatment, but many later switch to active treatment.
  • A multi-institutional study analyzed genetic data from over 5,000 prostate cancer patients who opted for AS to identify genetic factors that might predict those likely to switch to treatment.
  • The study found 18 genetic variants related to the decision to change treatment and established a link between certain genetic risk scores and the likelihood of converting from AS to active treatment, suggesting that genetics could personalize monitoring and treatment decisions for these patients.
