Chemotherapy-induced veno-occlusive disease (VOD) is a rare liver dysfunction seen among pediatric cancer patients which could lead to severe morbidity and mortality. Defibrotide is the commonly used antidote in the management of both stem cell transplant and chemotherapy-associated VOD along with liver supportive measures. Defibrotide is costly and generally not accessible to majority of patients treated at resource poor settings.

Snake bite envenomation is common in tropical countries during the summer. Snake bite-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) has varied histopathological manifestations such as acute cortical necrosis, acute tubular necrosis (ATN), and acute interstitial nephritis. However, snake bite-induced renal medullary angiitis has rarely been reported.

Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive and memory deterioration, personality changes, behavior abnormalities, and a steady motor decline. Extrapyramidal manifestations are commonly seen in the advanced stage of the disease. We discuss a 10-year-old boy with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis presenting with generalized choreoathetosis, myoclonus, and cognitive decline.

Oral prednisolone for management of persistent hypercalcemia afterhypercalcemic crisis in the Williams-Beuren syndrome.

Hypercalcemia may occur in approximately 15% of children with the Williams-Beuren syndrome. The episodes of hypercalcemic crisis usually respond well to initial hyperhydration, loop diuretics and calcitonin, bisphosphonates, or subsequent dialysis. However, many patients suffer from recurrent or persistent hypercalcemia after the resolution of the hypercalcemic crisis.
