Background: As the COVID-19 pandemic reached its peak, it became unavoidable that patients with other risk factors for severe pulmonary impairment (such as neuromuscular illnesses) would become afflicted. While the subject of myasthenic crisis secondary to COVID-19 pneumonia represents an interesting topic in the literature, we could not find consistent data that include, as a novel therapeutic approach, both intravenous immunoglobulin and plasma exchange therapy for the treatment of these two concurrent diseases.

Case Summary: A 69-year-old man with known seropositive generalized myasthenia gravis, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, NYHA class II-III heart failure, cerebrovascular disease, and recurrent urinary tract infections, was admitted to the ICU for mixed acute respiratory failure, elevated serum lactate and liver function enzymes, and severe thrombocytopenia.

Mesenteric Ischemia in a Patient with Essential Thrombocythemia: Does COVID-19 Play Any Role? A Case Report and Overview of the Literature.

Introduction: Chronic mesenteric ischemia is a rare entity with non-specific symptomatology; combined with rare etiologies, it could lead to unwarranted surgical indication.

Case Report: We report the case of an 85-year-old woman, with a history of hypertension, persistent thrombocytosis, atherosclerosis, and recent minor COVID-19 infection, presenting to the hospital with postprandial abdominal pain and nonspecific clinical examination findings; upon abdominal CT, superior mesenteric artery circumferential thrombosis was revealed. A bone marrow biopsy was performed due to suspected essential thrombocythemia, confirming the diagnosis.

The indocyanine green fluorescence imaging system allows the identification of lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes and blood flow during surgery. Colorectal cancer is the second commonest cancer in women, the third in men, being the fourth commonest cause of cancer death. One of the most important factors for staging and prognosis in colorectal cancer is the involvement of the regional lymph nodes.

Role of methylene blue in detecting the sentinel lymph node in colorectal cancer: vs. technique.

The identification of sentinel lymph nodes is a valuable oncological method, which aims at mapping lymphatic drainage and has the advantage of correctly staging the disease and assessing prognosis. Dynamics of serum α-fetoprotein in viral hepatitis C without hepatocellular carcinoma.

Viral hepatitis C represents a significant liver pathology worldwide, with a detrimental impact on national health systems. The present study aimed to correlate the levels of serum α-fetoprotein (AFP) with prognostic tools such as Fibroscan, the presence of mixed cryoglobulinemia, and various demographic and standard biochemical markers, in patients with chronic hepatitis C, unrelated to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A clinical study was designed considering three study groups: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) group including 35 patients with chronic hepatitis C and detectible viral load; sustained viral response (SVR) group including 20 HCV patients without detectable virus load 12 weeks after therapy cessation; a control group represented by 37 healthy volunteers.

Dyselectrolytemia-management and implications in hemodialysis (Review).

Hemodialysis is a method for the renal replacement therapy followed by series of acute and chronic complications. Dyselectrolytemia appears in patients undergoing dialysis through mechanisms related to the chronic kidney disease and/or to the dialysis therapy and for this group of patients it is associated with an increase of morbidity and mortality. The dialysate has a standard composition, which can be modified according to the patient's characteristics.

Thyroid angiosarcoma (AS) is a specific type of vascular tumor that arises from the endothelial cells, being highly aggressive, with increased recurrence rates and metastasis. It is characterized by positive endothelial markers and co-positive markers for cytokeratins and epithelial membrane antigen. We are describing the case of a 76-year-old patient who presented to the hospital for dyspnea and asthenia.

Infection with hepatitis C virus in hemodialysis patients: An overview of the diagnosis and prevention rules within a hemodialysis center (Review).

Increase in the number of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) calls for improved management of these patients. In stage 5 CKD, when the initiation of renal replacement therapy (RRT) becomes necessary, there is an increase in the infection risk of the patients and immunological tests for hepatitis C virus (HCV) detection turn positive at an alarmingly higher rate compared to general population. With the introduction into clinical practice of diagnostic tests, the increased prevalence of HCV among CKD patients has been known since the 1990s.

Characteristics of patients at initiation of renal replacement therapy - experience of a hemodialysis center.

The monitoring and care of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) before the dialysis initiation contribute to a better survival rate and an improvement in quality of life. The patients who do not benefit from a good predialysis management have a worse short and long-term prognosis. A retrospective, unicentric study was performed to evaluate the status of patients with stage 5 CKD at the time of initiation of renal replacement treatment.

The human ecology of the Danube Delta: A historical and cartographic perspective.

We present a case of environmental transformation, in the Romanian Danube Delta, driven by the interplay of state power, technological intervention, geomorphological processes, and local practices. Through the presentation of a cartographic archive (1856-2017), together with participant observation and historical research, we detail the various stages of transformation in the deltaic environment and show the relative interplay of driving forces. We show that each transformation of the Delta is at the same time an imposition from without and an adaptation from within, a move of consolidation of state power and a resistance to being fully incorporated.

[Complex case with respiratory, endocrine and digestive manifestations--late complications after a colic replacement of the esophagus for lye ingestion].

Long term complications after colic replacement of the esophagus are well known and their managment is known as being difficult, due to multiple associated comorbidities; we present the case of a 26-year-old patient with multiple late complications after a coloesophagoplaty for lye ingestion during childhood. The patient finally died despite all the eforts of treatement during a prolonged hospitalisation. We will try to analyse the key moments on patient's evolution and discuss other possible options in this case.

Results And Conclusions: FDLS appears to be an accompanying feature of many (if not most) human emotions and are more frequent in anxious, timid, pessimistic, discontent, irascible, tense, success-doubting, unexpected-dreading individuals, bothered by persistent thoughts and tormented by the professional requirements and the lack of time.

[Proportion and site distribution of extrarespiratory tuberculosis in 2007-2010 in Romania].

In the actual context of an increased TB endemia (notification rate of 90.5 per thousand, meaning 21457 cases in 2010, but with a constant decreasing trend in the last 8 years), we wanted to see what is the share and structure of extra-respiratory tuberculosis in the period 2007-2010. In the interval 2007-2010 have been registered annually between 1252-1267 extra-respiratory TB cases.
