Although fortilin has been shown to interact with cytoskeleton proteins such as tubulin and actin, its interactions with the components of adherens junctions remained unknown. Using co-immunoprecipitation western blot analyses, the proximity ligation assay, microscale thermophoresis, and biolayer interferometry, we here show that fortilin specifically interacts with CTNNA3 (α-T-catenin), but not with CTNNA1, CTNNA2, or CTNNB.

Background: Given the paucity of up-to-date empirical data on human papillomavirus (HPV) among older women, we aimed to estimate the global HPV prevalence in women aged 50 years and older with normal cytology.

Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched for quantitative studies (cross-sectional, longitudinal, case-control, randomised control trials) reporting HPV prevalence among women aged 50 years and older with normal cytology published until May 31, 2022, in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The risk of bias was assessed using a modified Newcastle-Ottawa scale.

Effect of Linoleic and Linolenic Acid Contents on the Oxidation Stability of Interesterified Fats under Rancimat Test Conditions.

This study aimed to better understand the association between the amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids, namely, linoleic acid (LA) and linolenic acid (LNA), and the increases in the peroxide value that results from storing interesterified fats, which are used as sources of solid fats in edible oil and fat products, at high temperatures. Six interesterified fats with different LA and LNA contents were prepared and oxidized at 50°C, 60°C, 70°C, and 80°C under Rancimat test conditions. The oxidation rate increased with LA and LNA contents and increasing temperature.

Background: Lung cancer (LC) survivors are at increased risk for developing a second primary cancer (SPC) compared to the general population. While this risk is particularly high for smoking-related SPCs, the published standardized incidence ratio (SIR) for lung cancer after lung cancer is unexpectedly low in countries that follow international multiple primary (IARC/IACR MP) rules when compared to the USA, where distinct rules are employed. IARC/IACR rules rely on histology-dependent documentation of SPC with the same location as the first cancer and only classify an SPC when tumors present different histology.

Incidence trend of type 2 diabetes from 2012 to 2021 in Germany: an analysis of health claims data of 11 million statutorily insured people.

Aims/hypothesis: The aim of the study is to describe the time trend of type 2 diabetes incidence in the largest state of Germany, Bavaria, from 2012 to 2021, and to compare the incidence rates during the pandemic period (2020-2021) to the pre-pandemic period (2012-2019).

Methods: This secondary data analysis uses health claims data provided by the Bavarian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVB), covering approximately 11 million insurees, accounting for 85% of the total population of Bavaria, Germany. Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes cases in adults (≥20 years) coded as E11 (Diabetes mellitus, Type 2) or E14 (Unspecified diabetes mellitus) under ICD-10, German modification (ICD-10-GM) for the study period 2012 to 2021 were included.

Protein Disulfide Isomerases and its prototype PDIA1 are thiol redox chaperones mainly from endoplasmic reticulum (ER), while PDIA1 cell surface pool redox-regulates thrombosis, cytoskeleton remodeling and integrin activation, which are mechanisms involved in aortic disease. Here we investigate the roles of PDIA1 in aortic dissection.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study among pregnant women with secondary data from the National Live Births System (Sistema Nacional de Nascidos Vivos), National Mortality System (Sistema Nacional de Mortalidade), and e-SUS Health Surveillance System (Sistema e-SUS Vigilância em Saúde). Pregnant women confirmed for COVID-19 had positive RT-PCR between March 2020 and May 2021, pregnant women without COVID-19 were those without notification for disease.

Second primary cancer among 217702 colorectal cancer survivors: An analysis of national German cancer registry data.

With improvements in survival after colorectal cancer (CRC), more survivors are at risk of developing a second cancer, particularly in younger populations where CRC incidence is increasing. We estimated the incidence of second primary cancer (SPC) in CRC survivors and its potential risk factors. We identified CRC cases diagnosed between 1990 and 2011 and SPCs until 2013 from nine German cancer registries.

Perceptions and practices regarding light sedation in mechanically ventilated patients: a survey on the attitudes of Brazilian critical care physicians.

Objective: To characterize the knowledge and perceived attitudes toward pharmacologic interventions for light sedation in mechanically ventilated patients and to understand the current gaps comparing current practice with the recommendations of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption in Adult Patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional cohort study based on the application of an electronic questionnaire focused on sedation practices.

Results: A total of 303 critical care physicians provided responses to the survey.
