Changes in brain proteasome dynamics associated with aging.

In the nervous system, proteasomes are important for proteolysis and cellular homeostasis of neurons and glial cells and for brain health. Proteasome function declines with age in many tissues, including the nervous system, and this decline affects many of the nervous system processes important to brain health and may be related to age-related cognitive decline. Therefore, we analyzed the factors that contribute to this decline in function using the brain of mice from different months of life.

Background: "Curved hair" caused by acquired factors is considered to have adverse cosmetic effects, but the detailed mechanism behind curved hair remains obscure.

(1) Background: It is our purpose to identify the differences in the changes in Complement C5a receptor 1 (C5aR1) levels showing the degree of inflammation at onset and Immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels showing the extent of survival of the virus fragments after recovery between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and pneumonia coronavirus disease (non-COVID-19) for saving patients' lives. (2) Methods: First, the studies showing these markers' levels in individual patients before and after the passage of time were selected from the PubMed Central databases with the keywords (((COVID-19) AND individual) NOT review) AND C5a/IgG. Then, no changes in these markers' levels with conventional analyses were selected from the studies.

Knowledge and practices of preconception care among rural Japanese women: findings from a mixed methods investigation.

Background: Preconception care is not widespread in Japan and there is a pressing need to improve the practice. The present study assessed the knowledge and behavior of preconception care among women to seek effective intervention. Our research questions were: 1) How much do women know about preconception care? 2) How much are they practicing preconception care and what are the information sources of their behavior? 3) Do the women's preconception care behavior associated with accurate knowledge?

Methods: The research was conducted in a rural town in central Japan.

In Japan, a new medical specialist system started in 2018 and has established the "Comprehensive Medical Specialist" program. The Japan Medical Agency allows specially-appointed supervisors, such as specialists in particular branches of internal medicine, to transfer to the "general practitioner" program. These specialists are often considered as reserve general practitioners.

Background: The global point prevalence survey (Global-PPS) is the standard for the surveillance of prescribed antimicrobials among inpatients and provides data for the development of hospital antimicrobial stewardship programs.

Aim: To evaluate the prevalence and quality of antimicrobial prescriptions using the universally standardized Global-PPS protocol in a non-acute care hospital in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Methods: Antimicrobial prescriptions for inpatients, staying at the hospital overnight, were surveyed on three separate week days in November 2018, January 2019, and May 2019.

The effect of nutrient deprivation on proteasome activity in 4-week-old mice and 24-week-old mice.

Recently, we have begun to better understand the regulatory mechanisms of proteasome activity in response to the nutritional state. In this study, we analyzed the expression and function of proteasomes in the livers and brains where changes in the metabolic system occur in vivo during short-term starvation. In the livers of 4-week-old mice, proteasome activity decreased with fasting time, whereas brain proteasome activity remained unchanged by up to 24 h of fasting and then decreased.

Of 2420 patients enrolled in the RESCUE-Japan Registry 2 study, a study based on a prospective registry of stroke patients with acute cerebral large-vessel occlusion at 46 centers, we analyzed the data of 1010 patients with successful reperfusion after endovascular therapy (mTICI of 2b or 3).

Background And Purpose: A transient ischemic attack (TIA) can occur without self-awareness of symptoms. We aimed to investigate characteristics of patients with a tissue-based diagnosis of TIA but having no self-awareness of their symptoms and whose symptoms were witnessed by bystanders.

Methods: We used data from the multicenter registry of 1414 patients with a clinical diagnosis of TIA.

This article aimed to examine the cost-effectiveness of rivaroxaban in comparison to warfarin for stroke prevention in Japanese patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), from a public healthcare payer's perspective. Spin structure and spin Hall magnetoresistance of epitaxial thin films of the insulating non-collinear antiferromagnet SmFeO.

We report a combined study of imaging the antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin structure and measuring the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in epitaxial thin films of the insulating non-collinear antiferromagnet SmFeO. X-ray magnetic linear dichroism photoemission electron microscopy measurements reveal that the AFM spins of the SmFeO(1 1 0) align in the plane of the film. Angularly dependent magnetoresistance measurements show that SmFeO/Ta bilayers exhibit a positive SMR, in contrast to the negative SMR expected in previously studied collinear AFMs.

Effect of Standard vs Intensive Blood Pressure Control on the Risk of Recurrent Stroke: A Randomized Clinical Trial and Meta-analysis.

Importance: The Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) demonstrated that a systolic blood pressure (BP) target less than 120 mm Hg was superior to less than 140 mm Hg for preventing vascular events. This trial excluded patients with prior stroke; therefore, the ideal BP target for secondary stroke prevention remains unknown.

Objective: To assess whether intensive BP control would achieve fewer recurrent strokes vs standard BP control.

Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Associated with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome.

Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) can cause orthostatic headache. However, it is difficult to differentiate POTS from spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) caused by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. We herein report a 53-year-old woman who presented with SIH associated with POTS.

Comparison of prasugrel and clopidogrel in patients with non-cardioembolic ischaemic stroke: a phase 3, randomised, non-inferiority trial (PRASTRO-I).
