Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) materials have been widely investigated as polymer matrix for solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) due to their high dielectric constant, electroactive effect (piezo-, pyro-, and ferroelectricity), and excellent thermal stability. However, the poor interface compatibility caused by highly reactive residual solvents and unsatisfactory ionic conductivity owing to sluggish Li transport kinetics are principal bottlenecks impeding the further development of PVDF-based electrolytes. Herein, we design a PVDF-based electrolytes with the assistance of hydrophilic-amorphous silica (HA-SiO).

  • Recent algal blooms threaten aquatic ecosystems, making eco-friendly algae-inhibiting methods, such as using allelopathic substances, valuable for water restoration.
  • This study focused on extracting flavonoids from Zanthoxylum bungeanum leaves and examining their effects on Microcystis aeruginosa algae.
  • Optimal extraction conditions were found, and results indicated that these leaf extracts not only have good antioxidant activity but also disrupt photosystem II activity in algae, providing promising insights for controlling algal blooms and developing new algae-inhibiting agents.

  • Heart failure (HF) significantly raises global health risks, and the effect of statin use on mortality in HF patients is still debated.
  • This study analyzed data from over 11,000 critically ill HF patients from the MIMIC-IV database, comparing those treated with statins to those who weren't, to assess their mortality rates over 30 days, 90 days, and 1 year.
  • The findings indicated that statin therapy notably decreased mortality rates; with a 23% reduction in 30-day mortality and a 12% reduction in 1-year mortality, particularly benefiting patients who received low doses of rosuvastatin.

  • * Findings show the OM is a mix from terrestrial plants, aquatic environments, and human activities, with the Brahmaputra having higher TOC and TN from C plants, while the Ganges shows lower TOC and higher anthropogenic inputs.
  • * The research highlights the role of sediment grain size in relation to OM concentration, noting that finer sediments in the Brahmaputra correlate with higher OM levels, while the coarser Ganges sediments are linked to lower OM concentrations.

Synthesis of PbS quantum dots (QDs) with uniform and controllable size is of great importance in realizing functionality manipulation, as well as building advanced devices, and these QDs have been normally synthesized via "bottom-up" colloidal chemistry. However, the problems of complicated techniques and the relative high cost of the "bottom-up" methods still need to be overcome. Herein, we present a facile and cost-effective "top-down" strategy for the production of PbS QDs with controllable sizes and narrow dispersions (4.

A comprehensive modeling framework for the thermoforming of polymer matrix woven laminate composite was developed. Two numerical indicators, the slip path length and traction magnitude, have been identified to be positively correlated to matrix smearing and wrinkling defects. The material model has been calibrated with picture-frame experimental results, and the prediction accuracy for intra-ply shear and thickness distribution was examined with measurements of the physically formed parts.

Iodine deficiency results in elevated thyroglobulin (Tg) concentrations, with high iodine Tg being more immunogenic than low iodine Tg. The study investigated the correlation between serum iodine concentration and thyroglobulin autoantibody (TgAb) levels across diverse iodine nutritional statuses as determined by urine iodine concentration (UIC). Demographic information was collected from 1,482 participants through a questionnaire.

Background: The association between vitamin D supplementation and the risk of falls in older adults has been controversial. This systematic review and network meta-analysis aims to assess the efficacy of vitamin D, calcium, and combined supplementation in the prevention of falls.

Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the efficacy of vitamin D in fall prevention were systematically searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from inception to May 9, 2023.

Inert atmosphere is normally necessary for fabrication of solid composite electrolytes (SCEs) as a crucial part of solid-state Li-metal batteries in order to avoid undesirable reactions induced by ambient moisture. Herein, we developed an air-processable technique to fabricate SCEs by employing LiCFSO (LiOTf) as the Li salt, which was combined with LiLaZrTaO (LLZTO) as the fast Li-conductor and polyvinylidene difluoroethylene/polyvinyl acetate (PVDF/PVAC) as the polymer matrix. With the assistance of trace HO dissolved in electrolyte solution, the room-temperature Li conductivity of the obtained aSCE reached as high as 5.

Human activity recognition (HAR) based on wearable sensors has emerged as a low-cost key-enabling technology for applications such as human-computer interaction and healthcare. In wearable sensor-based HAR, deep learning is desired for extracting human active features. Due to the spatiotemporal dynamic of human activity, a special deep learning network for recognizing the temporal continuous activities of humans is required to improve the recognition accuracy for supporting advanced HAR applications.

The iodine balance experiment is a traditional approach to evaluate the physiological requirement for iodine, while the simple linear regression model (SLM) and the mixed effects model (MEM) are two primary methods used to analyze iodine balance experiments. In the present study, we aimed to compare the effects of these two regression models on the evaluation of iodine balance experiments to investigate appropriate valuation methods. By constructing SLM and MEM, zero iodine balance values (IBV) were determined, and the evaluation effects were compared.

Background: The neuroprotective potential of blueberry (BB) extracts against Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been previously hinted at, while its exact mechanism has remained largely enigmatic.

Objective: Our study endeavored to unravel the impacts and mechanisms by which BB extracts ameliorated the learning and memory prowess of AD-afflicted mice, with a specific focus on the MEK-ERK pathway.

Methods: We employed 3-month-old APP/PS1 transgenic mice and stratified them into three distinct groups: AD+BB, AD, and control (CT).

Recurrence is a challenge to survival after the initial treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). But, its mechanism remains elusive and there are currently no biomarkers to predict postoperative recurrence. Here, the possibility of sterile alpha motif domain-containing protein 9 (SAMD9) as a predictor of postoperative recurrence of ESCC is evaluated and the molecular mechanisms by which SAMD9 promotes ESCC recurrence are elucidated.

Nanocarbons (NCs) consisting of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) were coated on the surface of nickel foam (NF) via a chemical vapor deposition method. The CNFs formed conductive networks on NF, while the CNTs grew perpendicular to the surface of the CNFs, accompanied with the formation of Ni nanoparticles (Ni NPs) at the end of CNTs. The unique Ni-NCs-coated NF with a porous structure was applied as the three-dimensional (3D) current collector of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, which provided enough space to accommodate the electrode materials inside itself.

We hypothesized that an effective iodine-specific food frequency questionnaire (I-FFQ) simplification method could expand the application of the I-FFQ in evaluating long-term iodine intake. An adult I-FFQ was developed and was simplified by deleting food items with iodine contribution rates ≤0.1%, combining food items with similar species and iodine contribution rates, and calculating the iodine content of combined food by a weighted calculation method.
