Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN). Activation of the neuroinflammatory response has a pivotal role in PD. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a promising therapeutic approach for various nerve injuries, but there are limited reports on their use in PD and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Trifunctional ORR/OER/HER catalysts are emerging for various sustainable energy storage and conversion technologies. For this function, employing materials with 1D structures leads to catalysts having limited surface area and structural robustness. Instead of 1D catalysts, heterostructured catalysts (, catalysts consisting of interfaces created by combining diverse structural components) have attracted much attention due to their high efficiency.

Various modifications to the technique have been described. We aim to study the long-term results in Asian patients who underwent a modified MMA procedure intended to avoid bimaxillary protrusion and which involved four-quadrant bicuspid extractions with posterior maxillary alveolar setback.

The fear pertains to estrogen-progestin replacement therapy (EPRT) as estrogen-alone replacement therapy has no, or even a reduced, breast cancer risk. We reviewed the way breast cancer risk with EPRT was reported in some major publications since 2002 and tried to put the use-risk association in context.

We investigate the impact of the delay in compulsory mask wearing on the spread of COVID-19 in the community, set in the Singapore context. By using modified SEIR-based compartmental models, we focus on macroscopic population-level analysis of the relationships between the delay in compulsory mask wearing and the maximum infection, through a series of scenario-based analysis. Our analysis suggests that collective masking can meaningfully reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in the community, but only if implemented within a critical time window of approximately before 80-100 days delay after the first infection is detected, coupled with strict enforcement to ensure compliance throughout the duration.

Over the decades, the biological role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression has been discovered in many cancer types, thus initiating the tremendous expectation of their application as biomarkers in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of cancer. Hence, the development of efficient miRNA detection methods is in high demand. Extensive efforts have been made based on the intrinsic properties of miRNAs, such as low expression levels, high sequence homology, and short length, to develop novel miRNA detection methods with high accuracy, low cost, practicality, and multiplexity at point-of-care settings.

Based on limited literature, postmenopausal endometriosis emerges as an infrequent entity but with a clinical picture significantly unlike that of premenopausal endometriosis. In contrast to the premenopausal disease, postmenopausal endometriosis occurs in a state of ovarian estrogen deficiency, appears to have a greater predisposition to malignant change, may have a greater tendency to spread to extragonadal organs and develop into constrictive and/or obstructive lesions, and is preferably treated surgically.

However, detection of miRNAs remains improvable, given their complexity, high cost, and low sensitivity as of currently. In this study, we attempt to build a novel platform that detects miRNAs at low cost and high efficacy.

One is unveiling the role of rare and common genetic variants; the other is the design of classification models to improve clinical diagnosis and predictive models for prognosis and personalized therapies. In this paper, we present a data fusion framework merging gene, domain, pathway and protein-protein interaction data related to a next generation sequencing epilepsy gene panel.

The objective of this chapter is to present an overview of how menstruation, a normal bodily function, was and is perceived in various ethnic groups and cultures in the world, from ancient mythology, historical, or traditional practices to contemporary belief systems. Mythical tales about menstruation abound in the legends and prehistory of ancient cultures. These tales characterize menstrual blood variously as sacred, a gift from the gods, or a punishment for sin, but it is almost always magical and powerful.

The latent gene products LMP1, LMP2A and EBNA1 are expressed by EBV-associated tumors and peptide epitopes derived from these can be targeted by CD8 Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte (CTL) lines. Whilst CTL-based methodologies can be utilized to infer the presence of specific latent epitopes, they do not allow a direct visualization or quantitation of these epitopes.

These portentous developments will have far-reaching social and economic implications in terms of income security, social welfare and medical services. The region is now home to more than half of the world's population and includes some of the richest and most developed countries alongside some of the poorest and least developed ones.

Based on these findings, we tested the hypothesis that reproductive hormone profiles differ among the nine ethnic groups under investigation in the PAM study.
Methods: Baseline serum samples from postmenopausal women (n=1020) representing nine ethnic groups were analyzed at a central laboratory by electro-chemiluminescence immunoassay methods.
The aging male is fast becoming a global concern. The problem is predicted to become a major health issue that should be addressed immediately in order to prevent disability, morbidity, and, more importantly, mortality. As part of its commitment to increase awareness and create interest in the care of Filipino aging males, The Philippine Society for the Study of the Aging Male Foundation, Inc.
