Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neuropsychiatric condition often persisting into adulthood, characterized by inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Emerging research suggests a connection between ADHD and gut microbiota, highlighting probiotics as potential therapeutic agents. This study involved a double-blind, randomized controlled trial where college students with ADHD received either a multi-strain probiotic supplement or a placebo daily for three months.

Contrast-Enhanced Digital Mammography for the Diagnosis and Determination of Extent of Disease in Invasive Lobular Carcinoma: Our Experience and Literature Review.

Objective: Contrast-enhanced imaging, including magnetic resonance imaging and, more recently, contrast-enhanced digital mammography (CEM), is indicated for the precise diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). The aim of our study was to further validate the use of CEM for evaluation of extent of disease in ILC cases, with digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) as an adjunct.

Methods: A retrospective, institutional review board approved study was conducted in a tertiary medical center.

A shrapnel migration from a peripheral vein to the right ventricle: case report.

Background: Foreign bodies that migrate into the heart may include medical devices dislodged from their original location or, rarely, external particles (shrapnel and other foreign bodies) that penetrate the vein, remain intraluminal, and migrate via the venous blood flow to the right heart. Most reported entry sites of these external foreign bodies were in the torso, thigh, or neck; none of them penetrated through a distal extremity of the body. We report a case where shrapnel was found in the right ventricle (RV) following penetrating injury to the hand.

Background: Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder with complex genetic and environmental underpinnings. Emerging evidence suggests a significant role of gut microbiota in ADHD pathophysiology. This study investigates variations in gut microbiota composition and Short-Chain Fatty Acid (SCFA) profiles between children and adolescents with ADHD and healthy controls.

The integration of genetic information (GI) into the electronic health record (EHR) seems inevitable as the mainstreaming of genomics continues. Such newly provided accessibility to GI could be beneficial for improving health care, as well as for supporting clinical decision-making and health management. Notwithstanding these promising benefits, the automatic integration of GI into the EHR, allowing unrestricted access to one's GI through patient portals, carries various knowledge-related risks for patients.

Expression of Potential Antibody-Drug Conjugate Targets in Cervical Cancer.

(1) Background: There is a huge unmet clinical need for novel treatment strategies in advanced and recurrent cervical cancer. Several cell membrane-bound molecules are up-regulated in cancer cells as compared to normal tissue and have revived interest with the introduction of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). (2) Methods: In this study, we characterize the expression of 10 potential ADC targets, TROP2, mesotheline, CEACAM5, DLL3, folate receptor alpha, guanylatcyclase, glycoprotein NMB, CD56, CD70 and CD138, on the gene expression level.

Internet Access and Use by Patients with Gynecologic Malignancies: A Cross-Sectional Study.

The influence of digitalization on information-seeking, decision-making properties of patients, therapy monitoring, and patient-physician interactions has and will change the global health sector tremendously. With this study, we add knowledge on the degree of digitalization, digital device availability, the use and availability of home and mobile internet access, and the willingness to use novel forms of patient-physician interactions in a group of gynecologic cancer patients. From July 2017 to March 2022, 150 women with a diagnosis of gynecologic malignancy at the University Hospital of Cologne participated in this questionnaire-based cohort study.

Recent evidence suggests that the gut microbiota plays a role in insomnia pathogenesis. This study compared the dietary habits and microbiota metabolites of older adults with insomnia of short vs. normal sleep duration (ISSD and INSD, respectively).

Screening Mammography for Males With Elevated Breast Cancer Risk, Mutation Carriers, and Gynecomastia.

Introduction: The recommendations for annual mammography for male carriers with gynecomastia are controversial. This study investigated the potential link between gynecomastia and breast cancer in male carriers.

Patients And Methods: The database of a tertiary medical center was retrospectively searched for all male patients who underwent at least 1 digital mammography study from 2016 to 2023.

Medical treatment does not reduce surgery rates in children with adenoid hypertrophy.

Objective: We sought to study adenoidectomy rates in children with adenoid hypertrophy (AH) who were either treated with medical therapy or not during a 2-year follow-up period in a longitudinal population-based study.

Methods: We retrospectively identified healthy children aged 1-18 years between 2014 and 2020 with AH diagnosis from the Clalit Health Services database, the largest healthcare maintenance organization in Israel. The main outcome was adenoidectomy alone or in combination with other procedures performed within 2 years after diagnosis.

Sleep and Circadian Disturbances in Children With Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Sleep problems are highly prevalent in those with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). We propose this is secondary to multiple factors that directly and indirectly negatively impact sleep and circadian processes in those with NDDs, which in turn, further perturbs development, resulting in a "developmental and sleep/circadian-related encephalopathy." In this review, we discuss select NDDs with known or suspected sleep and circadian phenotypes.

Incidence and Impact of Preoperative Hiatal Hernia in Patients with Esophageal Carcinoma Undergoing Curative Surgical Resection.

Background: Hiatal hernia (HH) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are risk factors for esophageal adenocarcinoma. High positive margin rates and poor survival were described among HH patients undergoing esophagectomy. We sought to describe incidence and impact of HH on outcomes following esophagectomy.

A personalized diet intervention improves depression symptoms and changes microbiota and metabolite profiles among community-dwelling older adults.

Introduction: The impact of diet on mental well-being and gut microorganisms in humans is well recognized. However, research on the connections between food nutrients, gut microbiota, and mental health remains limited. To address this, the present study aimed to assess the effects of a personalized diet, based on individual needs and aligned with the Mediterranean diet principles, on depression symptoms, quality of life, nutritional intake, and gut microbiota changes among older adults living in the community.

Background: Age-related changes in multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) of the prostate have been reported in the general population but not in screening cohorts.

Objectives: To evaluate age-related changes on prostatic mpMRI in a screening cohort of BRCA1/2 mutation carriers.

Methods: Asymptomatic BRCA1/2 mutation carriers underwent mpMRI as part of a screening program.

Importance: A core component of delivering care of head and neck diseases is an adequate workforce. The World Health Organization report, Multi-Country Assessment of National Capacity to Provide Hearing Care, captured primary workforce estimates from 68 member states in 2012, noting that response rates were a limitation and that updated more comprehensive data are needed.

Objective: To establish comprehensive workforce metrics for global otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (OHNS) with updated data from more countries/territories.

Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography and Abdominal Aortic Calcification Screening among High-Risk Living Kidney Donors.

Background: A unique scanning protocol combining coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) with routine abdominal CTA is being used at the Rabin Medical Center as a method of screening high-risk candidates for living kidney donation. We aim to evaluate the potential impact of coronary CTA on the decision regarding eligibility for kidney donation and its correlation with abdominal aortic calcification (AAC).

Methods: CCTA and abdominal CTA results of potential living kidney donors evaluated for donation between September 2020 and November 2021 were retrieved.

MitoTNT: Mitochondrial Temporal Network Tracking for 4D live-cell fluorescence microscopy data.

Mitochondria form a network in the cell that rapidly changes through fission, fusion, and motility. Dysregulation of this four-dimensional (4D: x,y,z,time) network is implicated in numerous diseases ranging from cancer to neurodegeneration. While lattice light-sheet microscopy has recently made it possible to image mitochondria in 4D, quantitative analysis methods for the resulting datasets have been lacking.
