Article Synopsis
  • Strain LCHXa is a newly discovered bacterium from Laguna Chaxa, a high lithium-content water body in Chile, showing resilience to high lithium levels.
  • It was cultivated in a lab with Luria-Bertani medium enhanced with lithium chloride, demonstrating the ability to grow in conditions up to 2 M LiCl, though growth slowed significantly.
  • The bacterium's osmoregulation utilizes compatible solutes like glycine betaine and glycerol to manage osmotic stress in high-salinity environments.
