While autonomic dysregulation and repolarization abnormalities are observed in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), their relationship remains unclear. We aimed to measure skin sympathetic nerve activity (SKNA), a novel method to estimate stellate ganglion nerve activity, and investigate its association with electrocardiogram (ECG) alterations after SAH. We recorded a total of 179 SKNA data from SAH patients at three distinct phases and compared them with 20 data from controls.

Wrestlers have a risk of relative energy deficiency in sports because they believe that they can gain an advantage over their opponents by temporarily adopting weight-making strategies even women. However, precise methods of making weight and the effect of manipulating body mass (BM) on health and performance in female wrestlers have not been reported. Our study aimed to report a case of weight making in a world-class female wrestler, who won the world competition seven times in 5-y and had oligomenorrhea.

Conservative treatment of traumatic finger amputations using negative-pressure wound therapy.

Replantation is widely regarded as the first choice of treatment for finger amputations. However, if the fingertip of a traumatic finger amputation is missing after an injury, the following procedures are often performed to reconstruct this portion: flap surgery, stump surgery, or conservative treatment, including occlusive dressings. To our knowledge, no existing English literature reports using negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) to treat traumatic finger amputations.

Establishing a Sequencing Method for the Whole Mitochondrial DNA of Domestic Dogs.

In human beings, whole mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequencing has been widely used in many research fields, including medicine, forensics, and genetics. With respect to the domestic dog (), which is commonly recognized as being an additional member of the traditional human family structure, research studies on mtDNA should be developed to expand and improve our collective knowledge of dog medicine and welfare as it seems that there is still room for further development in these areas. Moreover, a simple and robust method for sequencing whole mtDNA that can be applied to various dog breeds has not yet been described in the literature.

Optimum conditions for high-speed solid-liquid separation by ballasted flocculation.

In the ballasted flocculation, high-speed sedimentation of suspensions is achieved using a microsand as a ballast material and a polymer flocculant combined with microflocs made of polyaluminum chloride (PAC) as an inorganic coagulant. In this study, three turbid water samples containing kaolin clay (kaolin concentration: 20, 200, and 500 mg/L) were treated by coagulation-sedimentation and ballasted flocculation. The effects of pH and PAC dosage, which are the controlling parameters for coagulation, and the microsand (silica sand) and polymer dosages, which are the controlling parameters for ballasted treatment, on the treatment efficiency and floc settling velocity were examined.

High counts of bacteria are present in beach sand, and human health threats attributable to contact with sand have been reported. In this study, we investigated fecal indicator bacteria in the top surface sand of coastal beaches. Monitoring investigations were performed during a monsoon when rainfall occurs randomly, and the composition of the coliforms was analyzed.

The effect of dapagliflozin on uric acid excretion and serum uric acid level in advanced CKD.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) exhibit renoprotective effect in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and reduce serum uric acid (UA) in patients with diabetes mellitus. However, it is not clarified whether SGLT2i reduce serum UA levels in patients with advanced CKD. This study aimed to investigate the impact of SGLT2i on change in serum UA levels in patients with advanced CKD.

Liquid biomarkers in glioma.

An ideal biomarker must meet several parameters to enable its successful adoption; however, the nature of glioma makes it challenging to discover valuable biomarkers. While biomarkers require simplicity for clinical implementation, anatomical features and the complexity of the brain make it challenging to perform histological examination. Therefore, compared to biomarkers from general histological examination, liquid biomarkers for brain disease offer many more advantages in these minimally invasive methods.

In this study, we developed a method to simultaneously detect various pathogenic Escherichia coli by sequencing the amplicons of multiplex PCR.

Satisfaction with web-based courses on clinical practice guidelines for psychiatrists: Findings from the "Effectiveness of Guidelines for Dissemination and Education in Psychiatric Treatment (EGUIDE)" project.

To disseminate, educate, and validate psychiatric clinical practice guidelines, the Effectiveness of Guidelines for Dissemination and Education in Psychiatric Treatment (EGUIDE) project was launched in 2016. In this study, we investigated whether the web-based courses offered by this project would be as effective as the face-to-face courses. We analyzed and compared survey answers about overall participant satisfaction with the course and answers regarding clinical knowledge of schizophrenia and major depressive disorder between 170 participants who took the web-based courses in 2020 and 689 participants who took the face-to-face courses from 2016 to 2019.
