Mutations in the rifampicin (Rif)-binding site of RNA polymerase (RNAP) confer antibiotic resistance and often have global effects on transcription that compromise fitness and stress tolerance of resistant mutants. We suggested that the non-essential genome, through its impact on the bacterial transcription cycle, may represent an untapped source of targets for combination antimicrobial therapies. Using transposon sequencing, we carried out a genome-wide analysis of fitness cost in a clinically common rpoB H526Y mutant.

The preservation of fertility in women of childbearing age with breast cancer is challenging because the time for ovarian stimulation is restricted and only a limited number of oocytes can be retrieved before gonadotoxic therapies. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the fertility preservation outcomes after ovarian stimulation with various protocols in women with breast cancer. PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched.

A search for new phenomena is presented in final states with two leptons and one or no b-tagged jets. The event selection requires the two leptons to have opposite charge, the same flavor (electrons or muons), and a large invariant mass. The analysis is based on the full run-2 proton-proton collision dataset recorded at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139  fb^{-1}.

Unlabelled: If a person comes into contact with pathogens on public facilities, there is a threat of contact (skin/wound) infections. More urgently, there are also reports about COVID-19 coronavirus contact infection, which once again reminds that contact infection is a very easily overlooked disease exposure route. Herein, we propose an innovative implantation strategy to fabricate a multi-walled carbon nanotube/polyvinyl alcohol (MWCNT/PVA, MCP) interpenetrating interface to achieve flexibility, anti-damage, and non-contact sensing electronic skin (E-skin).

Introduction: Early feeding was previously considered to increase the risk of postprocedural bleeding. However, many trials have demonstrated the benefits of early feeding after therapeutic endoscopic procedures. We conducted a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to evaluate the safety and outcomes between early feeding and delayed feeding after therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Background: Approximately one third of patients undergoing core decompression (CD) for early-stage osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) experience progression of the disease, and subsequently require total hip arthroplasty (THA). Thus, identifying adjunctive treatments to optimize bone regeneration during CD is an unmet clinical need. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB plays a central role in cell growth and differentiation.

Background: Breast cancer is rare in men and managed by extrapolating from breast cancer in women. The clinicopathological features of male breast cancer, however, differ from those of female breast cancer. Because clinical trials are rare, the synthesis of real-world data is one method of integrating sufficient evidence on the optimal treatment for this patient population.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how shared decision making (SDM), using patient decision aids, affects mothers' feelings of decisional conflict and regret regarding postpartum infant care choices.
  • Researchers randomized 196 pregnant women into SDM and classic groups and evaluated their decision-making experiences after delivery using specific scales to measure decisional conflict and regret.
  • Results showed that the SDM group felt more confident and sure about their choices compared to the classic group, but there was no significant difference in decisional regret or care choice preferences between the groups.

Transplantation of oligodendrocyte precursors (OPs) is potentially therapeutic for myelin disorders but a safe and accessible cell source remains to be identified. Here we report a two-step protocol for derivation of highly enriched populations of OPs from bone marrow stromal cells of young adult rats (aMSCs). Neural progenitors among the aMSCs were expanded in non-adherent sphere-forming cultures and subsequently directed along the OP lineage with the use of glial-inducing growth factors.
