Faculty Perceptions, Knowledge, and Attitudes Toward Interprofessional Education and Practice.

As interprofessional education (IPE) is incorporated into health professions programs, it is essential to understand faculty perceptions, knowledge, and attitudes about IPE and interprofessional practice (IPP). A descriptive, cross-sectional design was used. Seventy-one faculty from three campuses of two rural public universities representing seven different programs participated.

Determinants of injuries in passenger vessel accidents.

This paper investigates determinants of crew and passenger injuries in passenger vessel accidents. Crew and passenger injury equations are estimated for ferry, ocean cruise, and river cruise vessel accidents, utilizing detailed data of individual vessel accidents that were investigated by the U.S.

The effectiveness of double hulls in reducing vessel-accident oil spillage.

While much work has been done in investigating determinants of oil spillage attributed to vessel accidents, little research has been conducted on the effectiveness of ship hull design in reducing marine pollution. This paper addresses whether the double-hull requirement reduces vessel-accident oil spillage. The volume of oil spillage due to oil-cargo vessel accidents was investigated using tobit regressions and an empirical data set of individual vessel accident pollution incidents investigated by the US Coast Guard from 2001 to 2008.

A model of fishing vessel accident probability.

Problem: Commercial fishing is one of the least safe occupations.

Method: The researchers develop a fishing vessel accident probability model for fishing areas off the northeastern United States using logit regression and daily data from 1981 to 1993.

Results: The results indicate that fishing vessel accident probability declined over the study period.

Informed proxy consent: communication between pediatric surgeons and surrogates about surgery.

Objective: Informed consent for surgical procedures requires that the procedures are explained and that the patient understands the procedures and risks and agrees to undergo them. Proxy consent occurs when an individual is provided with the legal right to make decisions on behalf of another. This study was conducted to determine how surgeons communicate information to obtain an informed proxy consent, and to investigate how that information is received and processed by surrogates responsible for providing such consent.

Enhancing Latin American women's self-concept: a group intervention.

This study attempts to explore the self-concept of Latin American immigrant adult women and measure the effectiveness of an "Enhancing Self-Concept" workshop on improving their self-concept. The sample consisted of 74 adult women aged 20 to 60 who were selected from first-level second-language courses from various educational institutions in Montreal. Participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group who received an "Enhancing Self-Concept" workshop or a control group who received a series of information sessions.

Effect of anatomic injection site, age and smoking on the immune response to hepatitis B vaccination.

Soon after the plasma-derived hepatitis B vaccine became available in the US, the Centers for Disease Control and the manufacturer received over 100 reports of vaccinated groups with unexpectedly low levels of vaccine-induced antibody. To confirm previous retrospective surveys relating these failures to buttock injection and to evaluate the effect of other host factors on vaccine-induced antibody responses, we conducted a clinical trial in healthy health-care workers. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups: 1-Ar, 1-inch needle injection in the arm; 1-Bu, 1-inch needle injection in the buttock; 2-Bu, 2-inch needle injection in the buttock.

Induction of ovulation by LH and FSH in the presence of antigonadotrophic sera.

Surges of both LH and FSH are secreted on the day of proestrus in the rat; both surges are blocked by pentobarbital (PB), WHICH ALSO BLOCKS OVULATION. The purposes of the present study were (a) to see if antisera to ovine LH or FSH would prevent ovulation from endogenously secreted rat hormones; (b) to see if exogenous ovine LH or FSH alone can cause ovulation in the presence of antiserum to ovine LH or FSH, when endogenous hormone secretion is suppressed by PB. Antisera were assessed for anti-OAAD or anti-hCG augmentation activity against ovine and/or rat pituitary hormones.
