Background: Access to liver transplantation (LT) is affected by geographic disparities. Higher waitlist mortality is observed in patients residing farther from LT centres, but the impact of distance on post-LT outcomes is unclear.

Aims: To evaluate whether the distance LT recipients reside from their LT centre affects graft and patient outcomes.

Acute allograft rejection is a well-known complication of liver transplantation (LT). The incidence, epidemiology, and outcomes of acute rejection have not been well described in Australia. We retrospectively studied consecutive adults who underwent deceased donor LT at a single center between 2010 and 2020.

Satellite liver transplant centres significantly improve transplant assessment outcomes for patients with chronic liver disease but not hepatocellular carcinoma: a retrospective cohort study.

Introduction: Liver transplantation (LT) remains integral to the management of end-stage chronic liver disease (CLD). However, referral thresholds and assessment pathways remain poorly defined. Distance from LT centre has been demonstrated to impact negatively on patient outcomes resulting in the development of satellite LT centres (SLTCs).

Unusual presentation of a man with recurrent chylous ascites.

We describe an interesting case of a 77-year-old man presenting with refractory chylous ascites of unknown aetiology. After extensive diagnostic workup, unifying diagnosis of an intriguing condition of yellow nail syndrome was reached. This case is unusual as it describes a rare cause of chylous ascites in this age group.

Persistent Hepatitis E virus infection across England and Wales 2009-2017: Demography, virology and outcomes.

The first clinical case of persistent HEV infection in England was reported in 2009. We describe the demography, virology and outcomes of patients identified with persistent HEV infection in England and Wales between 2009 and 2017. A series of 94 patients with persistent HEV infection, defined by HEV viraemia of more than 12 weeks, was identified through routine reference laboratory testing.

Drug therapies in liver disease.

The likelihood of a general physician encountering a patient with compensated and decompensated liver disease is increasing. This article provides an overview of pharmaceutical agents currently used in the management of cirrhosis and is designed to allow a better understanding of the rationale for using certain drugs in patients with often complex pathology.
