Feasibility of combining oncology surgery with bariatric surgery; a two-patient case series of sleeve gastrectomy with cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC.

Patients with an oncologic disease requiring cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy may also present with morbid obesity. In some patients, it may be possible to offer bariatric surgery such as sleeve gastrectomy in combination with their cancer resection to treat both diseases concurrently. Two such cases are described where sleeve gastrectomy was done alongside the primary oncologic surgery in the same procedure.

Background And Objective: Adolescence is considered to be a pivotal point in which optimum nutrition and eating habits are developed. Although tackling the obesity epidemic has been much discussed, addressing the issue of underweight and body image is often neglected. This study was carried out to get a better understanding of underweight status among adolescents in Saudi Arabia, and exploring self-perceptions of body image and weight loss measures among underweight adolescents.

Mixed Cryoglobulinemia in a Patient with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.

Cryoglobulinemia is a rare illness of cryoglobulin accumulation in the blood which can typically present with arthralgia, purpura, skin ulcers, glomerulonephritis, and peripheral neuropathy. It is classified as mixed cryoglobulinemia when cryoglobulins contain more than one immune component such as IgM rheumatoid factor and polyclonal IgG. Typically, it presents in the setting of clonal hematologic disease, viral infection, or certain connective tissue diseases.

Laparoscopic intrapancreatic accessory splenectomy: A case report of recurrent immune thrombocytopenia in a 33 years old male patient after 6 years of splenectomy.

Introduction: Intra-pancreatic Accessory Spleen (IPAS) is a rare benign abnormality of splenic embryology that should be considered in any patient with recurrence of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). The case demonstrates that remission could be achieved if an IPAS is correctly identified and safely removed.

Case Presentation: We report a 33-years-old male patient who presented with chronic ITP relapsed 3 years post initial splenectomy.

Incisional hernia repair with plication and utilization of Botox injections: First case report from Saudi Arabia for a 19-year-old female.

This article reports on the use of Botox preoperatively for the treatment of a complex ventral hernia which would have typically been treated with component separation technique. The case demonstrates that using the recently developed technique can aid in performing a tension-free hernia repair with potentially lower complication and recurrence rates.

Transcatheter versus surgical valve replacement for a failed pulmonary homograft in the Ross population.

Background: Patients who undergo the Ross procedure are at increased risk of pulmonary valve (PV) homograft dysfunction. For those who require reintervention on the homograft, transcatheter PV replacement (tPVR) provides a less invasive therapeutic option than surgical PVR (sPVR). We examined the outcomes following tPVR versus sPVR in a cohort of patients who underwent the Ross procedure.
