Background: Several studies have reported the presence of JC virus (JCV) in human tumors, The association of JCV and CRC remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the rearranged NCCR region of the detected JCV DNA in CRC patients' tissue samples.

Methods: In this case-control study, tumor tissues (n = 60), adjacent normal tissues (n = 60), and urine samples (n = 60) of the CRC patients were collected.

Background: The association between viral infections and colorectal cancer (CRC) remains an enigma in cancer research. Certain types of Human Papillomaviruses (hr-HPVs), known for their oncogenic properties, have been observed in particular CRC biopsies, further adding to the enigma surrounding this association.

Purpose: Metformin is considered as radiation modulator in both tumors and healthy tissues. Radiomics has the potential to decode biological mechanisms of radiotherapy response. The aim of this study was to apply radiomics analysis in metformin-induced radiosensitivity and finding radioproteomics associations of computed tomography (CT) imaging features and proteins involved in metformin radiosensitivity signaling pathways.

Evaluation of BRCA1 Gene Promoter Methylation Status in Sporadic Breast Cancer Patients in Southwest of Iran.

Aim: We aimed to assess the association between deficient levels of circulating vitamin D, dietary intake of vitamin D, calcium and retinol, and risk of colorectal cancer in an Iranian population.

Methods: In this retrospective case-control study that was conducted between 2012 and 2015, 278 first incident colorectal cancer cases (colon cancer = 103; rectal cancer = 175), and 278 sex and age matched healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. Serum 25(OH)D, dietary vitamin D, and calcium intake were assessed.

Ocular muscle metastasis as the initial presentation of a malignant pheochromocytoma: A unique case.

In this paper, we discuss a unique manifestation of malignant pheochromocytoma, which presented with ocular pain. The histopathological study pointed to a possible pheochromocytoma origin. Subsequently, the patient underwent thorough imaging and paraclinical evaluations, which confirmed the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma.

Influence of Two DNA Repair Pathway Polymorphisms in Colorectal Cancer Risk in Southwest Iran.

Objective: X-ray cross-complementing group 1 (XRCC1) and 8 Oxo guanine DNA-glycosylase 1 (OGG1) genes are implicated in the repair of single-stranded breaks (SSBRs) and base excision repair (BER) pathways. Common polymorphisms in DNA repair genes are supposed to decrease the capability of DNA repair and cause genetic instability. This study was designed to investigate the association between XRCC1 (rs25487) and OGG1 (rs1052133) polymorphisms and susceptibility to colorectal cancer (CRC) in the Ahvaz city, south-west Iran.

Applying protective rectal tube in intestinal anastomosis.

Introduction: Colorectal resection is used for various diseases, including neoplasms (benign and malignant) and inflammatory bowel disorders. Leakage is one of the complications that increase mortality and morbidity in patients. The beneficial effects of a rectal tube in reducing anastomosis leak are controversial.

Pancreatic Lymphangioma as a Rare Pancreatic Mass: A Case Report.

Introduction: Cystic lymphangiomas of abdomen has mostly involved mesentery and retro peritoneum that should be considered as a differential diagnosis of abdominal masses. Pancreatic lymphangiomas were extremely rare that should be differentiated from neoplastic pancreatic cysts. Patients have commonly presented with epigastric pain and a relevant palpable epigastric mass.

RESULTS OF POSTERIOR MYECTOMY FOR THE TREATMENT OF CHILDREN WITH CHRONIC CONSTIPATION.

Background And Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the result of posterior myectomy in children with chronic constipation who underwent to this surgery.

Methods: Forty eight children with chronic constipation who did not respond to diet, laxative, or enema were included. Children with abnormal barium enema showing transitional zone were excluded.

Assessment of changes in expression and presentation of NKG2D under influence of MICA serum factor in different stages of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. In this study, we correlated the serum level of major histocompatibility complex class I-related chain A (sMICA) with expression and presentation of NKG2D receptors on NK cells among patients with breast cancer. Peripheral blood (PB) samples were collected from 49 healthy and 49 breast cancer patients before surgery and chemotherapy.

Background: Over expression of Bcl-2 is frequently observed in several types of cancers and it is one of the prognostic markers in breast cancer. The importance of the Bcl-2 protein as ideal therapeutic target is the dual role of inhibiting apoptosis and autophagy-mediated cell death. Thus, the bcl-2 targeting may be a strategy of choice to improve treatment efficacy and overcome drug resistance to cancer chemotherapy.

Increased P-35, EBI3 Transcripts and Other Treg Markers in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells of Breast Cancer Patients with Different clinical Stages.

Purpose: Currently, cancer as a major problem around the world threatens human health and has a high incidence in developing countries. Many reports have indicated that patients suffering from cancer demonstrate decreased antitumor immune responses as well as a high prevalence of T regulatory population. It has been reported that Foxp3(+)Tregs exert suppression by cell contact-dependent mechanisms which are mediated by soluble factors such as immunosuppressive cytokines like IL-10, TGF-β and IL-35.

Background: A number of randomized trials addressing alternative operative and multimodality approaches to gastric cancer have characterized early postoperative morbidity and mortality rates. The aim of this study was to compare mortality and morbidity and disease free survival after D1 and D2 gastrectomy for adenocarcinomas of the stomach

Materials And Methods: From June 2006 to January 2012, patients were selected according to information of the cancer administrator center of Ahvaz Jundishapur Medical University. The inclusion criteria were age between 20-85 years and histologically proven adenocarcinoma of the stomach without evidence of distant metastasis.

Kinetic characterization of lactate dehydrogenase in normal and malignant human breast tissues.

Background: Aerobic glycolysis rate is higher in breast cancer tissues than adjacent normal tissues which providethe ATP, lactate and anabolic precursors required for tumourgenesis and metastasis. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is a critical enzyme during aerobic glycolysis as it is typically responsible for the production of lactate and regeneration of NAD(+), which allows for the continued functioning of glycolysis even in the absence of oxygen. LDH has been found to be highly expressed in breast tumors.

Cancer incidence in southwest of iran: first report from khuzestan population-based cancer registry, 2002-2009.

Background: Cancer incidence rates are increasing particularly in developing countries. It is crucial for policy makers to know basic cancer epidemiology in each region to design comprehensive prevention plans. There have hitherto been no population-based data available for cancer in Khuzestan province.

The relative frequency of the Helicobacter pylori infection in proximal gastric cancers.

Unlabelled: Gastric cancer with the annual mortality of 700 000 is the second cause of death in the world. Iran with the annual incidence of 37 in 100 000 is among areas with high risk of gastric cancer. In Iran, Khuzestan Province with the annual incidence of 10 -15 in 100 000 is among areas with moderate risk.

Concomitant Increase of OX40 and FOXP3 transcripts in peripheral blood of patients with breast cancer.

Background: Regulatory T cells (T-regs) have an important role in cancer by suppression of protective antitumor immune responses. Regulatory T cells express the forkhead/winged helix transcription factor (FOXP3) and OX40 molecules which have important regulatory roles in the immune system.

Objective: To evaluate FOXP3 and OX40 transcripts in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of women with breast cancer.
