Intraductal papillary neoplasms of the bile duct are generally thought to arise from neoplastic papillary proliferation of epithelial cells lining the bile duct. We herein report a case with findings that strongly suggested that the biliary cystic tumor might have derived from a peribiliary gland. A 69-year-old female was found to have a cystic lesion with intracystic protrusions at the anterior segment of the right hepatic lobe and underwent hepatic anterior segment resection.

Background: Tumor budding is defined as an isolated single cancer cell or a cluster of cancer cells composed of fewer than five cells at the invasive front of a tumor. The aim of the present study was to identify correlations between tumor budding and clinicopathological factors and their impact on postoperative prognosis in invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the thoracic esophagus.

Methods: The subjects were 82 patients who underwent curative resection.

Objectives: To assess the potential of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for monitoring the response to antiandrogen therapy in prostate cancer.

Methods: After patients had undergone 6 months of antiandrogen therapy, we investigated the time-course changes in findings obtained from DWI compared to the findings obtained from T(2)-weighted (T(2)W) images, transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics.

Results: The time-course changes in T(2)W images, TRUS, and PSA kinetics following antiandrogen therapy in the present study were consistent with previous reports.

A novel combination of tumors was found in a 68 year-old female with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type-1 (MEN 1) that included a cystic pancreatic endocrine neoplasm (CPEN), a pituitary adenoma, and multifocal cholesterol granulomas (MCGs) in the breast, pleura, and the extremities. The pancreatic tumor displayed a single central locule surrounded by a thin rim of neoplastic parenchyma. The tumor showed heterogeneity in the architecture that included glandular, trabecular and solid patterns.

Cytology is the only useful tool in the detection of malignant mesothelioma (MM) at an early stage. No other methods, such as immunocytochemistry or electron microscopy, are available to distinguish MM from reactive mesothelial cells (RMC). Some objective analysis of cytology specimens is necessary.

We report a case of an autopsy of unusual retroperitoneal sympathetic paraganglioma (SPG) that directly invaded the duodenum and showed expansive growth mimicking a submucosal tumor. The tumor was clinically suspected to be a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of the duodenum because of its location and extension to the retroperitoneum without catecholamine-associated symptoms. However, a small biopsy specimen of the tumor showed diffuse proliferation of large basophilic cells that were negative for C-kit and CD34, ruling out GIST and indicating an epithelial malignancy.

Here we report two cases of inverted hyperplastic polyps of the colon. The first patient showed three inverted hyperplastic polyps in the ascending colon, one of which was associated with adenoma. We immunostained this adenoma-associated polyp using anti-beta-catenin antibody and found accumulation of beta-catenin in the cytoplasm of the adenomatous lesion but not in the inverted hyperplastic polyp.
