Association of GLUT4 gene variants with HbA1c level in Japanese men.

GLUT4 is a major mediator of glucose removal from the circulation and a key regulator of whole-body glucose homeostasis. Recent studies in south Indian populations revealed that haplotypes of the GLUT4 gene associated with type 2 diabetes. A total of 734 middle aged apparently healthy Japanese men were recruited from two separate occupational cohorts from Kanagawa and Kyoto.
