Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) plays essential roles in placental calcium (Ca) transport, and it has been speculated that PTHrP in the placenta is regulated by calcium-sensing receptors (CaSR). This study clarified the relationship between PTHrP in the placenta of dairy cows and minerals in the fetal blood. Blood samples were obtained from 21 Holstein cows and 17 neonatal calves as well as 12 umbilical veins and arteries during cesarean section.

A gene (PSTG2) coding for a novel β-glucosidase belonging to glycoside hydrolase family 3 was identified in the vicinity of the previously identified β-glucosidase gene [sesaminol triglucoside (STG)-hydrolyzing β-glucosidase, PSTG1] in the genome of Paenibacillus sp. strain KB0549. Compared with PSTG1, recombinant PSTG2 more specifically acted on the β-1,2-glucosidic linkage of the STG molecule to transiently accumulate a larger amount of 6-O-(β-D-glucopyranosyl)-β-D-glucopyranosylsesaminol.

The Iriomote cat (IC; Prionailurus iriomotensis) and the Tsushima leopard cat (TLC; Prionailurus bengalensis euptilura) are endangered wild felids in Japan. As a part of ongoing conservation activities, we conducted a molecular, epidemiologic survey of Bartonella, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma infections in wild IC and TLC populations. Blood samples (47 from 33 individual IC; 22 from 13 TLC) were collected between August 2002 and January 2011.

Article Synopsis
  • An epidemiological study assessed the prevalence of Hepatozoon, Babesia, and Theileria infections in the Iriomote cat (IC) and Tsushima leopard cat (TLC) from 2002 to 2012.
  • Blood samples revealed a high prevalence of Hepatozoon felis infections, with 72.0% in ICs and 100% in TLCs, while no Babesia or Theileria infections were found.
  • The level of Hepatozoon parasitemia in blood smears varied between 0.1% and 4.7%, but none of the infected cats showed any clinical signs of disease.

We herein present clinical findings of an Iriomote cat with Hepatozoon felis parasitemia. A male Iriomote cat was captured for ecological analyses three times from January 2010 to January 2011. Although this cat did not show any hematological abnormalities at the time of the first capture, H.

By utilizing the advantages of a combined method of IRMS-TPD of ammonia and DFT calculations, the solid acidity of HSAPO-34 was studied. The number, strength and structure of the Brønsted OH were measured experimentally. The quantitative measurements and DFT calculations supported the identification of Brønsted OH to account for the generation model of the Brønsted OH primarily located in the edge of the Si domain (island).

Hemoplasma (hemotropic mycoplasma) often causes hemolytic anemia in infected cats, especially those with immune suppression. An updated nationwide epidemiological survey of feline hemoplasmosis was conducted in Japan. Blood samples were collected from 1,770 outdoor-accessing cats from March to October 2008.
