The effect of penile squeeze upon bladder instability was examined in 20 males and the results compared with those of anal dilatation. An uninhibited contraction of the bladder was successfully suppressed by squeezing the glans penis in 17 out of 20 patients and by dilating the anal sphincter in 20. It is concluded that this mechanical stimulus, when given to the glans penis of a normal man suffering from bladder instability, suppresses the detrusor contraction during the contracting phase but does not affect bladder tonus during the noncontracting phase.

This antibiotic activity was found to be bacteriostatic and was antagonized by guanine, guanosine, and guanylic acid. The growth of leukemia L 1210 cell was also inhibited by oxanosine, and the inhibition was reversed by guanylic acid.

A chain cystourethrography and an endoscopic examination were the most informative to disclose the pathogenesis of urinary retention. Urodynamically, bladder compliance was normal without any pathological contraction.

ESR spectra for Cu(II) complexes of BLM A2, epi-BLM B2, depyruvamide-BLM A2 and P-3 revealed the axially symmetric g-anisotropies. In contrast, ESR features of the iso-BLM B2, deglyco-BLM B2, P-5m and P-3A complexes, which lack the sixth ligation by the 3-O-carbamoyl group of mannose, exhibited rhombic g-anisotropies with decrease of the A parallel values.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxanosine, a novel nucleoside, has been isolated from the culture filtrate of a strain of Streptomyces. The structure was determined to be 5-amino-3-beta-D-ribofuranosyl-3H-imidazo [4,5-d] [1,3]oxazin-7-one by X-ray crystallographic analysis and chemical studies. Oxanosine showed weak antibacterial activity on peptone agar; for example, Escherichia coli K-12 (MIC 12.

Tyrosine hydroxylase was shown to be inhibited in vitro by bleomycin. At a concentration of 1 X 10(-4) M, copper-free BLM-A2 inhibited tyrosine hydroxylase activity by 50%, and all other bleomycins investigated including copper-bound BLM-A2 showed similar degrees of inhibition of tyrosine hydroxylase. The kinetic data have shown that the inhibition by BLM-A2 is competitive with a tetrahydropterin cofactor (6-methyl-tetrahydropterin) and uncompetitive with tyrosine.

The urinary bladder was filled with 100 ml of saline and 100 micrograms of prostaglandin 995 were injected intravenously. The changes in bladder and intra-abdominal pressures were observed for up to 20 min.
