Transformation with large DNA molecules enables multiple genes to be introduced into plants simultaneously to produce transgenic plants with complex phenotypes. In this study, a large DNA fragment (ca. 100 kb) containing a set of Aegilops tauschii hardness genes was introduced into rice plants using a novel transformation method, called bioactive beads-mediated transformation.

The function of proline is thought to be an osmotic regulator under water stress, and its transport into cells is mediated by a proline transporter. Here, we report the effects of expressing the barley proline transporter (HvProT) under the control of either the CaMV35S promoter (35Sp) or a root cap promoter (RCp), on Arabidopsis growth.

Amylose-free transgenic sweet potato plants were produced by inhibiting sweet potato GBSSI gene expression through RNA interference. The gene construct consisting of an inverted repeat of the first exon separated by intron 1 of GBSSI driven by the CaMV 35S promoter was integrated into the sweet potato genome by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation.

The IbSBEI amino acid sequence was 81% identical to that of potato StSBEI. DNA gel-blot analyses demonstrated that at least two copies of IbSBEI are present in the sweet potato genome.

We produced transgenic tobacco plants that express the transcript of a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) of tobacco plastid omega-3 fatty acid desaturase gene, NtFAD7. In these transgenic plants, 16:3 and alpha-18:3 content in leaves decreased to less than 2.

Production of biologically active adiponectin in large scale is desirable for pharmaceutical applications. Mouse adiponectin cDNA was used for developing transgenic sweet potato plants via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation.

We characterized a cDNA of WAS-3a encoding the major isoform of taTLPs from winter wheat cells and showed that WAS-3a transcripts were markedly increased by treatment with ABA and by treatment with elicitors (chitosan, beta-glucan and cell wall fractions of Fusarium oxysporum and Microdochium nivale) in wheat cells.
