Purpose: Corynebacterium species are commensals of human skin and mucous membranes and are recognized as important pathogens in ocular infections. This study investigated the clinical characteristics of Corynebacterium keratitis.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed cases of bacterial keratitis in which Corynebacterium species were solely isolated from corneal scraping cultures collected at Ehime University Hospital between January 2010 and February 2024.

Solitary median maxillary central incisor (SMMCI) syndrome, the mildest form of the holoprosencephaly spectrum, is a rare anomaly characterized by the presence of a single midline central incisor in both the deciduous and permanent dentitions. Affected individuals can present with additional midline defects beyond dental findings. The 22q11.

It is believed to be beneficial to utilize VR technology for the acquisition of pharmacist skills. Therefore, we developed a VR training tool aimed at acquiring skills in the preparation of pharmaceuticals in preparatory clinical education for pharmacy students.

Specifically, we have investigated a cross-linked acrylic liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) that exhibits both transparency and flexibility while maintaining a high level of thermal conductivity. The transparent monodomain LCE sheet was achieved through a process of stretching an initially opaque polydomain sheet to 80% elongation and subsequently subjecting it to photocuring.

Case Presentation: A 29-year-old man presented to our emergency department with testicular pain for several days after the onset of hand, foot, and mouth disease.
Bitterness and astringency are the aversive tastes in mammals. In humans, aversion to bitterness and astringency may be reduced depending on the eating experience. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying plasticity in preference to bitter and astringent tastants remain unknown.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA Cu-responsive allosteric DNAzyme has been developed by introducing bifacial 5-carboxyuracil (caU) nucleobases, which form both hydrogen-bonded caU-A and metal-mediated caU-Cu-caU base pairs. The base sequence was logically designed based on a known RNA-cleaving DNAzyme so that the caU-modified DNAzyme (caU-DNAzyme) can form a catalytically inactive structure containing three caU-A base pairs and an active form with three caU-Cu-caU pairs. The caU-DNAzyme was synthesized by joining short caU-containing fragments with a standard DNA ligase.

DNA three-way junction (3WJ) structures with three amino acid side chains in the core have been synthesized post-synthetic DNA modification. Amide condensation reactions of oligonucleotides containing 2'-aminouridine with activated esters yielded DNA strands modified with His, Cys and Asp side chains to form modified 3WJs. Even a 3WJ with three negatively charged Asp side chains formed stably at room temperature.

The LC epoxy monomer on the silane coupling surfaces of the substrates was revealed to form a smectic A (SmA) phase with planar alignments because of the relatively low surface free energy. An LCER with a curing agent, however, formed a homeotropically aligned SmA structure by curing on a substrate surface modified using a silane coupling agent with amino groups.

Particular attention is focused on the development of dynamic DNA nanodevices whose configuration and function are regulated by specific chemical inputs. Herein, we demonstrate the concept of metal-mediated base-pair switching to induce inter- and intramolecular DNA strand displacement in a metal-responsive manner.

Recently, disease-modifying therapies have been developed, and simple diagnostic biomarkers for FD are required to initiate these therapies in the early stages of the disease. Detection of urinary mulberry bodies and cells (MBs/MCs) is beneficial for diagnosing FD.

The quality of life (QoL) of CRPC patients during ENZ treatment is very important, but predictive markers of QoL have not been identified. We investigated the relationship between the serum testosterone (T) level before ENZ treatment and QoL changes in CRPC patients.

Multiple water pathways have been implicated in neurons because these cells lack water channels, and their membrane has a low water permeability. NKCC1 and KCC2 are cation-chloride cotransporters (CCCs) involved in water movement in various cell types.

Here we report a novel ligand-type triazole-4-carboxylate (TazC) nucleoside that is readily prepared by the click reaction. We report the Cu-mediated stabilisation of DNA duplexes bearing damaged nucleobases, 1,-ethenoadenine (εA), as metal-binding sites, which was utilised to construct a metal-responsive DNAzyme. Consecutive incorporation of three or more εA-εA mismatch pairs allowed for Cu-dependent significant duplex stabilisation through metal-mediated εA-Cu-εA base pairing.
