Presepsin, which is used as a biomarker for sepsis, is thought to be removed by dialysis, but the actual removal properties of dialysis are unknown. We investigated the presepsin removal properties of continuous hemodiafiltration using the high concentration of presepsin from human plasma drained by plasma exchange. Each solution in plasma exchange was connected to a continuous hemodiafiltration blood circuit and circulated at 4 conditions.

Material And Methods: Patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) were retrospectively cate-gorised into non-sepsis or sepsis groups, according to the Sepsis-3 definitions.
Objective: We aimed to evaluate retrospectively the effect of soluble recombinant human thrombomodulin (rTM) on prognosis in patients with severe acute pancreatitis complicated by disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
Methods: Based on Japanese diagnostic criteria of acute pancreatitis and DIC, patients who entered our intensive care unit (ICU) were selected. Comparisons were made between patients treated with rTM (rTM group) and without rTM (control group).

Yokkaichi asthma was one of the most common environmental pollution diseases in Japan in the 1960s and 1970s. The problem of air pollution in Yokkaichi was solved in the 1970s. However, mortality and life expectancy were still affected by the late effects of air pollution in patients with Yokkaichi asthma even in the 2000s.

On admission, Glasgow Coma Scale score was 7; arterial blood pressure was 113/73 mm Hg; heart rate was 157 beats x min(-1), and percutaneous oxygen saturation was 99% on 10 l x min(-1) of oxygen. The patient was intubated with a 5.

We investigated the effects of an ultra-short-acting μ-opioid receptor agonist, remifentanil, on cardiovascular and sympathetic function in conscious rats.
Methods: The mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), and renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) were recorded during continuous intravenous (i.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) potentiates the blocking action of lidocaine. A giant axon removed from a crayfish was used to investigate nerve conduction and intracellular lidocaine concentration. The maximum values of the differential waveform (dV/dt max) calculated from evoked action potentials were used for evaluating an inhibition of nerve conduction.

Sixty patients premedicated with oral brotizolam 0.25 mg were allocated to receive procedural analgesia with saline or 25 or 50 μg of fentanyl.

Bupivacaine has a higher lipid solubility, tissue permeability, and affinity for sodium channels than lidocaine, resulting in greater anesthetic potency. Local anesthetics require access to the sodium channel from the intracellular milieu.

Materials And Methods: Diagnostic imaging was performed for 2 patients (one with gastric cancer, one with a rectal tumor) using virtual endoscopy, 3-D CT for the patient with gastric cancer and 3-D EUS for the patient with the rectal tumor, for the pre-operative evaluation of tumor structure and volumetry. Computer-generated image analysis of resected tumors was also performed.
A 45-year-old woman after repair of tetralogy of Fallot at the age of 19, was admitted to the hospital for treatment of paroxysmal hypertension. She was diagnosed with pheochromocytoma of the left adrenal gland, and was scheduled for removal of pheochromocytoma. She received doxazosin for preoperative preparation.

Methods: The mean EC50 values (the local anesthetic level that causes destruction of half of the red blood cells in vitro) of lidocaine HCl, tetracaine HCl and dibucaine HCl were determined with 0% and 7.
We described a case of postoperative airway obstruction in a patient using a cuff button-like silicone cannula for tracheal stoma. A 59-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis, was admitted to the hospital for total knee arthroplasty. She had been managed by a long-term tracheostomy for rheumatic cricoarytenoid arthritis.

Although the lungs and pleural cavity are the principal sites affected with the parasite, ectopic infection can occur in unexpected sites such as skin and brain. This case report describes a patient with active hepatic capsulitis due to Paragonimus westermani infection.
