In the Philippines, nemipterid fishes hold substantial economic importance due to their high market value. Palliative Radiation Therapy without Chemotherapy for a Patient with Monomorphic Epitheliotropic Intestinal T Cell Lymphoma: A Case Report.

Monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T cell lymphoma (MEITL), which used to be known as type 2 enteropathy-associated T cell lymphoma, is a rare lymphoma and is generally treated with chemotherapy. However, the MEITL prognosis is poor, and intestinal lymphoma including MEITL has the risk of bowel perforation not only at presentation but also during chemotherapy. A 67-year-old man was diagnosed with MEITL after presenting in our emergency room with bowel perforation.

Importance of experienced thermal history: Effect of acclimation temperatures on the high-temperature tolerance and growth performance of juvenile marbled flounder.

Experienced thermal history often affects the temperature tolerance of fish; however, the effect of thermal history on growth performance is unclear. To contribute to effective stocking (release of hatchery-reared juveniles in the field), we conducted four laboratory experiments using juvenile marbled flounder (Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae, around 30 mm standard length and 0.3 g body wet weight) acclimated at 12 °C and 24 °C for approximately 2 weeks to investigate the effects of acclimation temperature on high-temperature tolerance, food consumption, and growth performance.

Laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for sigmoid colon cancer with left-sided inferior vena cava and persistent descending mesocolon.

Left-sided inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare congenital malformation, as is persistent descending mesocolon, a developmental anomaly in which the colonic mesentery does not fuse with the dorsal abdominal wall. Although these anomalies are mostly asymptomatic, they should be identified preoperatively to avoid iatrogenic injury. We report a case of sigmoid colon cancer in a patient with both anomalies.

Capital breeders develop gametes by using energy that was stored before the spawning season. Energy is allocated to growth and reproduction, and limited food availability affects the balance of energy allocation, especially in fish that mature within a year, such as western sand lance (Ammodytes japonicus). This species aestivates without feeding until winter spawning and utilize energy stores that were accumulated prior to aestivation for maturation and spawning.

Risk factors for nasal bleeding in patients undergoing transnasal gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Transnasal endoscopy is widely used in screening for upper gastrointestinal lesions because of less associated pain. Nasal bleeding is the most severe adverse effect, but specific risk factors have not been identified. Feasibility of myocardial flow reserve prediction without the use of dynamic data from myocardial perfusion positron emission tomography.

Quantification of myocardial flow reserve (MFR) provides diagnostic value for detection of cardiovascular artery disease. However, the common calculation method for MFR requires dynamic acquisition and specific software. The study aimed to predict coronary artery disease by simpler calculation of myocardial count without the use of dynamic data from N-ammonia myocardial perfusion positron emission tomography (MP-PET).

To assess the effect of adenosine infusion by evaluating the relationship between heart rate (HR) response to adenosine and myocardial flow reserve (MFR) of remote regions supplied by normal coronary arteries in (13)N-ammonia PET. Thirty-one consecutive subjects (20 known coronary artery disease patients, 4 chronic heart failure patients, and 7 normal volunteers) except cases having 3-vessel disease underwent rest and adenosine stress (13)N-ammonia myocardial perfusion PET. Semi-quantitative, quantitative, and gated analyses were performed.

Methods And Results: Twenty consecutive subjects underwent rest and adenosine stress (13)N-ammonia myocardial perfusion PET. Two sets of images were reconstructed using TOF-ordered subset expectation maximization (TOF-OSEM) and 3-dimensional row-action maximum likelihood algorithm (3D-RAMLA).

Haemolytic anaemia due to stenosed double-reinforced grafts after surgical repaired aortic dissection.

Haemolytic anaemia due to a stenosed graft is a rare complication after surgery for aortic dissection. We present the case of a patient with haemolytic anaemia and heart failure, who had undergone emergent ascending aorta replacement for type A acute aortic dissection 5 years earlier. Chest computed tomography revealed severe graft stenosis of the proximal anastomosis and transthoracic echocardiography showed severe aortic regurgitation.

A case of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms after recurrent acute pancreatitis.

We report a case of main pancreatic duct (MPD)-type intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas (IPMNs), in whom diagnostic imaging modalities showed abnormal findings after 4 episodes of acute pancreatitis. The patient was 51 years old at his first admission for acute pancreatitis. He experienced two more episodes of acute pancreatitis, though repeated computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) showed no abnormality to explain the cause of the pancreatitis.

Background: Couinaud's segmentation is widely used for clinical segmentation of the liver. Recently, a new method of liver segmentation was described by Ryu. In this method, the right posterior sector in Couinaud's segmentation is regarded as 1 segment, and the right anterior sector is subdivided into the antero-ventral segment (AVS) and the antero-dorsal segment (ADS), which are demarcated by the anterior fissure vein (AFV).

Risk factors for recurrent bile duct stones after endoscopic papillary balloon dilation: long-term follow-up study.

Background: Little is known about the long-term results of endoscopic papillary balloon dilation (EPBD) for bile duct stones.

Methods: Between 1995 and 2000, 204 patients with bile duct stones successfully underwent EPBD and stone removal. Complete stone clearance was confirmed using balloon cholangiography and intraductal ultrasonography (IDUS).

A case of choledochocele mimicking choledocholithiasis on MR cholangiography: A new differential diagnosis of pseudo-filling defect.

We present the case of a 79-year-old female with acute cholangitis and cholecystitis who presented with right upper quadrant pain. Thin-collimation MR cholangiogram showed a filling defect measuring 1 cm, which was less prominent on single-slab images. Endoscopy showed dynamic ballooning and collapsing of the ampulla of Vater, and a cholangiogram showed characteristic bulging at the distal common bile duct, which led to the diagnosis of choledochocele.

Development of gastric carcinoma from intestinal metaplasia in Cdx2-transgenic mice.

In the progression of chronic gastritis, gastric mucosal cells deviate from the normal pathway of gastric differentiation to an intestinal phenotype. Many epidemiologic studies have found an association between the formation of intestinal metaplasia and the development of gastric carcinoma. However, there is no direct evidence that shows intestinal metaplasia is a precursor lesion of gastric carcinoma, to date.

Calcified bile duct stone not crushable by endotriptor or mechanical lithotriptor: case report.

When we remove bile duct stones in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, we sometimes encounter the complication of basket impaction. In most cases, bile duct stones can be crushed with a mechanical lithotriptor. An endotriptor also is commonly used to resolve the problem of basket impaction.
