Skin infections caused by Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-positive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), especially the USA300 clone, have been increasing in Japan. To prevent an epidemic of PVL-positive MRSA, rapid diagnosis and effective antimicrobial therapy are essential. However, the clinical features of, and antimicrobial efficacy against, these skin infections are not well understood in Japan.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) in early childhood is the first allergic manifestation in the atopic march. Recently, latent class analysis (LCA) has revealed the presence of AD subgroups in childhood.

Objective: This study aimed to elucidate different AD phenotypes up to 36 months of age and identify factors associated with a particular AD phenotype in early childhood.

Methods: We conducted a survey with a modified questionnaire to diagnose AD based on The International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood questionnaire with 1230 13-year-old children who were born in the Minami ward, Yokohama City between May 2004 and June 2005 and had undergone physical examinations by dermatologists at 3 years of age.

Mortality and risk factors on admission in toxic epidermal necrolysis: A cohort study of 59 patients.

Background: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare but life-threatening disorders characterized by widespread epidermal necrosis of the skin and mucosa. The severity-of-illness scoring system for TEN (SCORTEN) was widely used since 2000 as a standard prognostic tool consisting of seven clinical values.

Methods: To evaluate the prognosis using current treatments and risk factors for mortality, we retrospectively analyzed 59 cases of TEN, including SJS/TEN overlap treated in two university hospitals from January 2000 to March 2020.

Methods: This integrated analysis of data of Japanese patients from 2 global Phase 3 studies, SPARTAN ( NCT01946204 ; patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant PC [nmCRPC]) and TITAN ( NCT02489318 ; patients with metastatic castration-sensitive PC [mCSPC]), and the Phase 1 study 56021927PCR1008 ( NCT02162836 ; patients with metastatic CRPC [mCRPC]), assessed clinical risk factors of apalutamide-related skin rash as well as the potential correlation with plasma exposure to apalutamide. Kaplan-Meier method was used for time-to-event analyses.

Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei (LMDF) is characterized by discrete dome-shaped papules on the bilateral face and neck. We report the first case of LMDF with a widespread distribution of extrafacial papules and concomitant bilateral eyelid edema.
