It can be transmitted through blood transfusion from asymptomatic blood donors. This study was done to investigate the parvovirus B19 infection rate of a group of healthy Japanese residents.

[A case of AIDS-associated Kaposi's sarcoma with systemic invasion].

Kaposi's sarocoma (KS) is a well-known complication of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). A 23-year-old man with AIDS complicated by multiple KS seen in January 2008 for anorexia and 10 kg weight loss had a CD4 cell count of 7/microL and a serum HIV RNA level of 29,000 copies/mL. Computed tomography (CT) and endoscopy showed multiple KS lesions in both lungs, the duodenum, small intestine, colon, liver, and both kidneys but not of the skin.

An aqueous solution of an amphiphilic polysaccharide derivative, hydrophobically (stearyl alkyl group) and hydrophilically (sulfonic-acid salt group) modified hydroxyethylcellulose (HHM-HEC), showed increased viscosity, elasticity, and thixotropic properties in response to the addition of monovalent and divalent salts. Furthermore, the HHM-HEC solution had a transparent appearance at a NaCl concentration of 7 wt %. Infectivity of porcine circovirus (PCV) 1 and PCV2 was examined in primary porcine hepatocyte culture by comparing that of PCV in primary kidney cell culture. The virus titer of PCV2-infected hepatocyte cultures was higher than that of the PCV1-infected hepatocyte cultures and the PCV-infected kidney cell cultures. The number of virus-positive cells was most abundant in PCV2-infected hepatocyte cultures as determined by immunohistochemistry and/or in situ hybridization.

Development of an ELISA based on the baculovirus-expressed capsid protein of porcine circovirus type 2 as antigen.

The genome of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) contains two major open reading frames, which have been shown to encode the virus capsid and replication-associated proteins.
