Cancer stem cells (CSCs) reside in a supportive niche, constituting a microenvironment comprised of adjacent stromal cells, vessels, and extracellular matrix. The ability of CSCs to participate in the development of endothelium constitutes an important characteristic that directly contributes to the general understanding of the mechanisms of tumorigenesis and tumor metastasis. The purpose of this work is to establish a reproducible methodology to investigate the tumor-initiation capability of ovarian cancer stem cells (OCSCs).

Article Synopsis
  • The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway is crucial for regulating cellular proteins, and recent studies are identifying deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) as new targets for cancer therapies, especially in breast, endometrial, and prostate cancers, as well as multiple myeloma.
  • Research shows that the DUB inhibitor bAP15 can inhibit cell growth in various cancers; however, its mechanism in ovarian cancer is still not fully understood.
  • In a study involving 1,435 ovarian cancer patients, high UCHL5 expression was linked to shorter progression-free survival, and bAP15 was found to induce cancer cell death by affecting TGF-β signaling, suggesting UCHL5 inhibition could be a promising

Article Synopsis
  • - Stratified mucin-producing intraepithelial lesion (SMILE) is a rare precursor to cervical adenocarcinoma, linked to human papillomavirus (HPV), yet limited data exists on HPV detection within SMILE lesions.
  • - A 30-year-old woman's Pap smear showed atypical glandular cells, and subsequent biopsy confirmed the presence of SMILE and high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), with HPV types 52 and 68 detected as contributing factors.
  • - Identifying high-risk HPV genotypes could be crucial for preventing SMILE progression to cancer and improving patient management strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) has been linked to a rare but concerning condition known as squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue and oral cavity (SCCTO) in some patients, particularly those with long-term use.
  • A study analyzing 114 ovarian cancer patients receiving PLD aimed to determine the prevalence of oral leukoplakia, a precursor to SCCTO, and found this condition in 5.3% of patients, with a median PLD dose at diagnosis of 685 mg/m.
  • The findings suggest that a cumulative PLD dose of 400 mg/m or more significantly increases the risk of developing oral leukoplakia, highlighting the need for routine oral monitoring for these

Background: Recent Drosophila studies showed that Discs-large (Dlg) is critical for regulation of cell polarity and tissue architecture. We investigated the possibility that loss of the human homologue of Drosophila Dlg (DLG1) is involved in endometrial carcinogenesis.

Methods: We analysed DLG1 expression in 160 endometrial cancers by immunohistochemical staining.

Minimal deviation adenocarcinoma (MDA) is defined as an extremely well differentiated variant of endocervical adenocarcinoma. Several reports have stated that MDA associates with lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia (LEGH). It is difficult to distinguish LEGH from MDA based on clinical and histologic similarities.
