Surgical treatment for degenerative mitral stenosis associated with aortic valve stenosis: A case report.

Unlabelled: We report a 73-year-old female who underwent mitral valve replacement for degenerative mitral stenosis (DMS) and aortic valve replacement for aortic valve stenosis. She was transferred to our hospital because of congestive heart failure. Transthoracic echocardiogram demonstrated severe mitral valve stenosis and aortic valve stenosis.

Role of Mitral Valve Repair for Mitral Infective Endocarditis.

The 2 primary objectives of surgery in mitral valve infective endocarditis (IE) are total removal of the infected tissue and reconstruction of cardiac morphology, including repair or replacement of the affected valve. Single-institution series have suggested the feasibility and effectiveness of mitral valve repair (MVrep) over replacement in mitral IE in terms of in-hospital mortality and long-term event-free survival. This article reviews the history, details of the relevant repair techniques, and clinical results of MVrep for mitral IE.

Background: The palpation of the apex beat, one of the most fundamental physical examinations, provides a clue to left ventricular (LV) dilatation and hypertrophy; however, its relation to left atrial (LA) volume has rarely been investigated.

Methods: The clinical value of the apex beat, especially in relation to LA volume was studied in 138 consecutive patients. Patients were examined in the supine position for a palpable apex beat.

Mitral valve repair for infective endocarditis: Kobe experience.

Objectives: We retrospectively analyzed our experience of mitral valve repair for native mitral valve endocarditis in a single institution.

Methods: From January 1991 to October 2011, 171 consecutive patients underwent surgery for infective endocarditis. Of these, 147 (86%) had mitral valve repair.

We report the case of a 75-year-old man with essential thrombocythemia who underwent successful surgical aortic valve replacement after his platelet count was controlled with plateletpheresis 3 times before surgery.

Transition-Metal-Free and Oxidant-Free Cross-Coupling of Arylhydrazines with Disulfides: Base-Promoted Synthesis of Unsymmetrical Aryl Sulfides.

A novel synthesis of unsymmetrical aryl sulfides, which requires no transition metal catalyst and no oxidant, was developed. Herein, we reviewed our experience with total arch replacement using antegrade selective cerebral perfusion under right axillary artery perfusion.
