Radiation-induced hemorrhagic cystitis is a late complication of radiotherapy, and in rare cases, refractory. Refractory bleeding may not be resolved by transurethral electrocoagulation (TUEC) or hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy and requires transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) or urinary diversion. Here, we report two cases of radiation-induced hemorrhagic cystitis successfully treated with TAE.

This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139  fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst)  fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36}  fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Article Synopsis
  • SETD2 and BAP1 are chromatin remodeling genes that are frequently mutated in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and play a role in tumor progression and metastasis.
  • A study compared 7 cases of locally advanced ccRCC with SETD2 mutations to 7 cases with BAP1 mutations, finding that SETD2-mutated tumors exhibited aggressive growth with a rhabdoid morphology and significant invasive characteristics.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of molecular testing for SETD2 and BAP1 mutations in ccRCC for better risk assessment and treatment strategies, as their high-grade features can overlap, making it challenging to identify the mutations based solely on tumor appearance.

Despite advances in our understanding of myocardial recovery among left ventricular assist device (LVAD) patients, with 10-30% of patients achieving substantial myocardial improvement, the rates of LVAD support cessation remain extremely low (1-2%). These numbers are in stark contrast to clinical trial data where successful LVAD cessation is reported in up to 47% of patients. The majority of LVAD programs lack structured recovery programs and targeted protocols, likely underscoring the heterogeneity that exists among LVAD patients with myocardial recovery.

LiDAR point clouds are significantly impacted by snow in driving scenarios, introducing scattered noise points and phantom objects, thereby compromising the perception capabilities of autonomous driving systems. Current effective methods for removing snow from point clouds largely rely on outlier filters, which mechanically eliminate isolated points. This research proposes a novel translation model for LiDAR point clouds, the 'L-DIG' (LiDAR depth images GAN), built upon refined generative adversarial networks (GANs).

Importance: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) enhance quality and duration of life in advanced heart failure. The burden of nonsurgical bleeding events is a leading morbidity. Aspirin as an antiplatelet agent is mandated along with vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) with continuous-flow LVADs without conclusive evidence of efficacy and safety.

Phosphate (Pi) is a macronutrient, and Pi homeostasis is essential for life. Pi homeostasis has been intensively studied; however, many questions remain, even at the cellular level. Using Schizosaccharomyces pombe, we sought to better understand cellular Pi homeostasis and showed that three Pi regulators with SPX domains, Xpr1/Spx2, Pqr1, and the VTC complex synergistically contribute to Pi homeostasis to support cell proliferation and survival.

Article Synopsis
  • Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) are related diseases caused by Aspergillus infection, with CPA sometimes developing from ABPA.
  • A case study reported on a patient experiencing both conditions concurrently and monitored serum cytokine levels at various stages of treatment.
  • The study found that IL-13 levels decreased with glucocorticoid treatment, while IL-25 and IL-33 levels dropped quickly after starting antifungal medications, suggesting early antifungal treatment is crucial for managing disease progression and preventing overlap of CPA.

In the field of intelligent vehicle technology, there is a high dependence on images captured under challenging conditions to develop robust perception algorithms. However, acquiring these images can be both time-consuming and dangerous. To address this issue, unpaired image-to-image translation models offer a solution by synthesizing samples of the desired domain, thus eliminating the reliance on ground truth supervision.

Background: Recent studies have shown an association between psychological distress and emotion malleability beliefs, meaning mindsets about whether one's emotions are fixed or changeable. However, most studies have not examined the association between these beliefs and sociodemographic factors.

Methods: A nationwide cross-sectional Internet survey of residents of Japan aged 15-79 years was conducted using sampling weights for national estimates to investigate the association between emotion malleability beliefs and sociodemographic factors and between fixed beliefs and severe psychological distress (SPD).

Compound 5 was identified from a high-throughput screening campaign as a small molecule pharmacological chaperone of glucocerebrocidase (GCase), a lysosomal hydrolase encoded by the GBA1 gene, variants of which are associated with Gaucher disease and Parkinson's disease. Further investigations revealed that compound 5 was slowly transformed into a regio-isomeric compound (6) in PBS buffer, plausibly via a ring-opening at hemiaminal moiety accompanied by subsequent intramolecular CC bond formation. Utilising this unexpected skeletal rearrangement reaction, a series of compound 6 analogues was synthesized which yielded multiple potent GCase pharmacological chaperones with sub-micromolar EC values as exemplified by compound 38 (EC = 0.

Flow imaging microscopy (FIM) is widely used to characterize biopharmaceutical subvisible particles (SVPs). The segmentation threshold, which defines the boundary between the particle and the background based on pixel intensity, should be properly set for accurate SVP quantification. However, segmentation thresholds are often subjectively and empirically set, potentially leading to variations in measurements across instruments and operators.
