  • The study aimed to analyze how antimicrobial treatment affects patients with nursing and healthcare-associated pneumonia (NHCAP) based on their risk for drug-resistant pathogens (RDRP).
  • A retrospective review of 220 hospitalized NHCAP patients showed no significant mortality difference between those receiving narrow versus broad-spectrum antibiotics, with 11.3% of patients dying in-hospital after improvement.
  • The findings suggest that broad-spectrum antibiotics may not be necessary for treating NHCAP, as patients can still experience other serious complications leading to death despite improved pneumonia symptoms.
