Associations of social capital and health at a city with high aging rate and low population density.

Maintaining physical and mental health of older people is one of the important issues to be addressed in the aging society. Social capital, defined as the resources available to members of social groups, has recently attracted attention as a factor influencing public health. Most of the previous studies targeted various communities having different aging rates or population densities at once to examine the associations of social capital and health outcomes.

Factors affecting pregnancy outcomes in young women treated with fertility-preserving therapy for well-differentiated endometrial cancer or atypical endometrial hyperplasia.

Background: Patients hoping to preserve their fertility receive conservative treatment with high-dose medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) for well-differentiated endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EC) or atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) . Such treatment generally involves frequent intrauterine operations, including dilation and curettage (D&C) and endometrial biopsy (EMB), which could result in endometritis, endometrial thinning, or intrauterine adhesion. In turn, any of these outcomes could adversely affect implantation and pregnancy development.

100-Gbps CMOS transceiver for multilane optical backplane system with a 1.3 cm2 footprint.

A compact 4 × 25 Gbps optical transceiver has been fabricated for an optical backplane system, which consists of a 4 × 25 Gbps DFB-LD array, a 4 × 25 Gbps PIN-PD array, and a CMOS transceiver chip. These are directly mounted on 9 × 14 mm(2) multi-layer ceramic package with an electromagnetic shield structure to suppress inner-channel crosstalk effectively. The transceiver includes an analog front-end as well as an electrical interface function to interface with the switch LSI or CPU.

Application of the lateral orbital flap to reconstruction of the upper and lower eyelids and the eye socket after enucleation.

The wide applications of the subcutaneous pedicle flap "lateral orbital flap" named by the author is presented. The flap is designed between the lateral canthus and the sideburn as a spindle or crescent shaped island 2- to 3-cm wide and 5-cm long. To reconstruct the upper or lower eyelids, the flap is elevated as thin as possible, whereas for the eye socket reconstruction, an adequate volume of subcutaneous fat tissue is attached to the flap.

Dumbbell-formed lipomas under the zygomatic arch.

Two cases of dumbbell-shaped lipoma under the zygomatic arch and the therapeutic courses are described. Both tumours were present in the buccal and temporal processes and the isthmus, which showed dumbbell forms occupying temporal and infratemporal fossae on coronal MR images. According to the location, the tumours seemed to be derived from a masticatory fat pad.
