Aim: To investigate the reliability of the established and new scoring methods for Hoffa's fat pad synovitis using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Methods: A total of 139 knees of 115 patients who underwent MRI of the knee with and without gadolinium contrast were enrolled in this study. Proton density (PD)-weighted, PD-weighted fat-suppressed (PD-FS), and postcontrast T1-weighted fat-suppressed (T1CE) images were used for evaluation.

Recently, we identified a novel small molecule inhibitor, CU-3, that selectively inhibits the activity of the α isozyme. The virtual embolic area (VEA) was estimated based on cone beam computed tomography during hepatic arteriography using a commercially available workstation and liver analysis software by two observer groups (group A: experts; group B: semi-experts).
Purpose: While human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) target therapies have significantly improved the prognosis of patients with HER2-enriched breast cancer, differing clinical benefits and gene expression analyses suggest a divergent HER2 subgroup. We aimed to investigate whether the basal HER2 subtype of breast cancer has distinguished characteristics.
Methods: We performed a substudy by using data from a retrospective multi-institutional cohort of JBCRG-C03.
Background: Although increasing evidence suggests that epicardial adipose tissue volume (EATV) is associated with atrial fibrillation (AF), it is controversial whether there is a dose-response relationship of increasing EATV along the continuum of AF. We evaluated the effect of the EATV on the prevalence of paroxysmal AF (PAF) and persistent AF (PeAF) and the relationships with cardiac structure and functional remodeling.
Methods and results: Subjects who underwent multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) coronary angiography because of symptoms suggestive of coronary artery disease were divided into sinus rhythm (SR) (n=112), PAF (n=133), and PeAF (n=71) groups.
Purpose: To evaluate the biological effects of proton beams as part of daily clinical routine, fast and accurate calculation of dose-averaged linear energy transfer (LET ) is required. In this study, we have developed the analytical LET calculation method based on the pencil-beam algorithm (PBA) considering the off-axis enhancement by secondary protons. This algorithm (PBA-dLET) was then validated using Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) results.

The patient presented with a history of pain on the dorsal aspect of the left foot, with tenderness and swelling. Perioperative findings revealed a synfibrotic connection between the accessory bone and the navicular and intermediate cuneiform.

Here, we compared the local epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness and global cardiac adiposity volumes for predicting CAD.
Methods and results: A total of 197 consecutive subjects underwent 320-slice multi-detector computed tomography coronary angiography and were segregated into CAD (≥1 coronary artery branch stenosis ≥50%) and non-CAD groups.
In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chemotherapy resistance remains prevalent and poorly understood. Using functional proteomics of patient AML specimens, we identified MEF2C S222 phosphorylation as a specific marker of primary chemoresistance. We found that knock-in mutant mice engineered to block MEF2C phosphorylation exhibited normal hematopoiesis, but were resistant to leukemogenesis induced by MEF2C phosphorylation was required for leukemia stem cell maintenance and induced by MARK kinases in cells.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground And Objectives: To explore whether lymphocytes in sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) are highly exposed to tumor neoantigens and thus express high level of programmed death 1 (PD-1), we examined PD-1 expression in SLNs and non-sentinel regional lymph nodes (non-SLNs) in breast cancer.
Methods: We performed PD-1 immunohistochemistry in two cohorts: 40 metastasis-negative SLNs including 10 patients for each subtype (luminal A-like, luminal B-like, HER2, and triple negative breast cancer [TNBC]); and 25 pairs of metastasis-positive SLNs and non-SLNs (10 luminal A-like, 10 luminal B-like, and 5 TNBC).
Results: Among 40 metastasis-negative SLNs, 34 and 6 samples were PD-1 intensity grade 1 (low) and 2 (high), respectively.
A person's direction of gaze (and visual attention) can be inferred from the direction of the parallel shift of the eyes. However, the direction of gaze is ambiguous when there is a misalignment between the eyes. The use of schematic drawings of faces in a previous study demonstrated that gaze-cueing was equally effective, even when one eye looked straight and the other eye was averted.
