We herein report a 31-year-old Japanese woman with evolving hypopituitarism due to pituitary stalk transection syndrome. She had a history of short stature treated with growth hormone (GH) in childhood and had hypothyroidism and primary amenorrhea at 20 years old. Levothyroxine replacement and recombinant follicle stimulating hormone-human chorionic gonadotropin (FSH-hCG) therapy for ovulation induction were started.

Background: Statins decrease cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) levels, which have been positively associated with hepatic lipid content as well as serum low density lipoproteins-cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. However, the relationship between the CETP status and statin-induced reductions in LDL-C levels has not yet been elucidated in detail. We herein examined the influence of the CETP status on the lipid-reducing effects of pitavastatin in hypercholesterolemic patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus as well as the molecular mechanism underlying pitavastatin-induced modifications in CETP levels.

A 62-year-old woman complained of repeated hypoglycemic events. A 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (75 gOGTT) showed a marked increase in the plasma insulin level and impaired glucose tolerance. The patient exhibited a high titer of plasma anti-insulin autoantibodies.

Background: The half of hyperalphalipoproteinemia (HALP) in Japan is caused by CETP gene mutations. Other than two prevalent mutations (D442G and Intron 14 splicing donor site +1G>A), some rare CETP mutations are found in Japanese HALP subjects.

Methods: CETP gene analysis of genomic DNA from subjects was performed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and sequencing analysis.

Adult growth hormone deficiency (AGHD) is a recently recognized endocrine disorder characterized by low peak GH levels during provocative tests. The AGHD has a negative impact on bone mineral density, skeletal muscle strength, physical capacity and psychosocial well-being. Furthermore, the girls with GHD have delayed pubertal development, and in adulthood present a condition of subfertility.

Troglitazone is a thiazolidinedione antidiabetic agent with insulin-sensitizing activities that was withdrawn from the market in 2000 due to its association with idiosyncratic hepatotoxicity. To address the suspected autoantibody production associated with troglitazone, we investigated autoantibodies in sera from patients with type II diabetes mellitus with troglitazone-induced liver dysfunction. Two female patients (47- and 70-year-old) ceased taking troglitazone (400 mg/day) after 23.

Our purpose in this study was to evaluate the new JAS guidelines as a risk assessment tool in Japanese patients with hypercholesterolemia, using the cohort of the Holicos-PAT study. The Holicos-PAT study was designed as a prospective observational study. 2039 patients were followed with or without pravastatin for 5 years.
