Purpose: This study examines the impact of the 2010 and 2016 Model Core Curriculum (MCC) revisions on medical education across all 82 medical schools in Japan.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2021, focusing on the response to the MCC revisions, curriculum changes, and factors influencing these changes. The survey included questions on approaches to implementing the MCC revisions, timing of curriculum updates, factors triggering these revisions, changes in student performance and career paths, and the introduction of new subjects.

Seasonal and pandemic-associated influenza strains cause highly contagious viral respiratory infections that can lead to severe illness and excess mortality. Here, we report on the optimization of our small-molecule inhibitor F0045(S) targeting the influenza hemagglutinin (HA) stem with our Sulfur-Fluoride Exchange (SuFEx) click chemistry-based high-throughput medicinal chemistry (HTMC) strategy. A combination of SuFEx- and amide-based lead molecule diversification and structure-guided design led to identification and validation of ultrapotent influenza fusion inhibitors with subnanomolar EC cellular antiviral activity against several influenza A group 1 strains.

Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type1(CLN1), is a one form of the group of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs), which is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive psychomotor deterioration, ataxia, epilepsy, and visual impairment. Neurological manifestations occur at a wide range of ages, from infancy to adulthood, but are most common in infancy. The prevalence of CLN1 is unclear; however, it is very rare in Japan and Europe.

Forensic science is an important field of analytical chemistry where vibrational spectroscopy, in particular Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, present advantages as they have a nondestructive nature, high selectivity, and no need for sample preparation. Herein, we demonstrate a method for determination of donor sex, based on attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR FT-IR) spectroscopy of dry urine traces. Background: Intramucosal, histologically mixed-type, low-grade (LG), well-differentiated gastric tubular adenocarcinomas (tub1s; LG-tub1s) have larger mean diameters and exhibit a higher frequency of the gastric mucin phenotype (G-phenotype) than pure LG-tub1s. In proportion to their increases in diameter, G-phenotype differentiated-type early gastric cancer (EGC) tumours reportedly grow to eventually contain (an) undifferentiated-type component(s) and LG-tub1s, which are included in differentiated-type EGCs, reportedly exhibit changes in their glandular architectural and cytological atypia grades from LG to high-grade (HG) and can grow to contain a moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma (tub2) component and undifferentiated components. Because they generally show a higher frequency of malignancy relative to tumours with a higher atypia grade and lower differentiation degree, it is suggested that, among mixed-type LG-tub1s, G-phenotype LG-tub1s containing an HG-tub2 component (LG-tub1s > HG-tub2) with undifferentiated components might lead to late-onset metastasis to lymph nodes even after a successful endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).

Body fluid (BF) identification is a critical part of a criminal investigation because of its ability to suggest how the crime was committed and to provide reliable origins of DNA. In contrast to current methods using serological and biochemical techniques, vibrational spectroscopic approaches provide alternative advantages for forensic BF identification, such as non-destructivity and versatility for various BF types and analytical interests. However, unexplored issues remain for its practical application to forensics; for example, a specific BF needs to be discriminated from all other suspicious materials as well as other BFs, and the method should be applicable even to aged BF samples.
