Article Synopsis
  • The ABC classification for assessing gastric cancer risk may misclassify high-risk individuals as low-risk due to its reliance on serum H pylori antibody and pepsinogen levels.
  • A new 4-parameter predictive formula was developed using age, serum H pylori antibody, PGI, and PGII to more accurately identify truly uninfected individuals, outperforming the traditional ABC model in sensitivity and specificity.
  • In a study of 788 participants, the predictive formula showed better specificity, especially in older age groups and those with low H pylori antibody levels, enhancing the efficiency of gastric cancer screening.

Objective Helicobacter pylori antibody kits using the latex immunoassay (LIA) are widely used in Japan. However, the optimal cut-off of the LIA remains unclear. This study clarified the optimal cut-off of the LIA for assessing the current infection status of patients (currently infected, never infected, spontaneously eradicated) in clinical practice.

Article Synopsis
  • Fatty pancreas (FP) involves fat accumulation in the pancreas and is linked to metabolic issues, yet it is not officially recognized in Japan's cancer screening guidelines.
  • In a study of 919 individuals, 46.8% were found to have FP, with a higher prevalence in men and those suffering from lifestyle-related diseases, especially fatty liver disease.
  • Severe FP was connected to older age, larger waist circumference, higher triglycerides and glucose levels, and lower serum amylase, indicating significant associations between FP severity and liver health.

Introduction: To prevent gastric cancer, it is important to accurately determine the presence of Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection. However, correctly identifying HP-uninfected individuals is difficult when using the combination of HP antibody and pepsinogen (PG).

Objective: The aim of this study was to discriminate true HP-uninfected individuals from others without the need for endoscopic examination.

There are currently no plastic pancreatic duct stents that have been designed for endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-guided placement. This study prospectively evaluated the feasibility and efficacy of a new, single-pigtail, plastic stent. Eight patients with main pancreatic duct stricture or stenotic pancreatojejunostomy underwent EUS-guided placement of the pancreatic duct stent.
