This paper discusses how anti-Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) racism affects pediatric training, research, and clinical practice. Extant research shows that racism and discrimination are social determinants of health that impact AANHPI populations, including youth. AANHPI youth face significant health disparities and a wide range of barriers to health care access.

Assessment of anatomic variations of the brachial artery bifurcation using vascular Doppler ultrasound: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Anatomical variations in arteries of the upper limb, such as presence of an accessory brachial artery, are common and widely described in the literature, mainly in cadaveric studies, but it is now possible to diagnose them using vascular Doppler ultrasound.

Objectives: To identify the incidence of accessory brachial artery using vascular Doppler ultrasound and compare the findings with cadaveric studies.

Methods: This was a prospective study that examined 500 upper limbs of 250 volunteers assessed with vascular Doppler ultrasound using the Sonosite Titan portable ultrasound machine.

An exploratory study of community violence and HIV care engagement among Black gay and bisexual men.

This study examined the relationship between exposure to community violence and HIV care engagement among 107 Black gay or bisexual men living with HIV in Chicago. Measures assessed the importance of demographic covariates (age, annual income, health insurance status, and years living with HIV), community violence exposures, mental health, social support, in explaining variations in missed doses of antiretroviral therapy (ART) medication and missed HIV care appointments. Results showed that participants who reported higher rates of exposure to community violence were two times more likely to have missed ART doses and HIV care appointments.

A nanochitosan-D-galactose formulation increases the accumulation of primaquine in the liver.

Primaquine is the mainstream antimalarial drug to prevent relapses. However, this drug can induce hemolysis in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Nanostructure formulations of primaquine loaded with D-galactose were used as a strategy to target the drug to the liver and decrease the hemolytic risks.

Superficial ulnar artery diagnosed by vascular ultrasound: case report.

The largest branch of the terminal division of the brachial artery is the ulnar artery, which arises after the cubital fossa. This artery usually has a deep path in the muscles of the anterior forearm and is responsible for vascularization of the superficial and deep musculature on the ulnar side of the forearm and hypothenar area of the hand. We report an anatomical variant diagnosed by Doppler ultrasound in which the ulnar artery had a superficial position in the forearm.

Police Violence Experienced by Black Gay and Bisexual Men: The Effects on HIV Care Engagement and Medication Adherence.

Black men face high rates of police violence, including direct victimization and indirect exposure to or knowledge of harmful policing. This violence can result in death and physical harm, as well as in numerous poor mental health outcomes. There has been little research examining experiences of police violence experienced by Black gay and bisexual men or the effects of police brutality on HIV continuum of care outcomes.

The Inherent Violence of Anti-Black Racism and its Effects on HIV Care for Black Sexually Minoritized Men.

The goal of this study was to examine the effects of racial discrimination, depression, and Black LGBTQ community support on HIV care outcomes among a sample of Black sexually minoritized men living with HIV. We conducted a cross-sectional survey with 107 Black sexually minoritized men living with HIV in Chicago. A path model was used to test associations between racial discrimination, Black LGBTQ community support, depressive symptoms, and missed antiretroviral medication doses and HIV care appointments.

The Thermoluminescent dosimeter is a solid material used as instrumentation for environmental monitoring through determining environmental equivalent dose H∗(10). This work presents the calibration methodology for TLDs LiF:Mg, Cu, P dosimeters and their application to measure H∗(10) in internal buildings occupied by inhabitants of an urban area. The calibration factor and type tests were made according to ISO 4037-3 and IEC 62387, and the uncertainty was determined.

Understanding the impact of police brutality on Black sexually minoritized men.

Young Black gay, bisexual, and other sexually minoritized men (SMM) face high levels of police brutality and other negative, unwarranted encounters with the police. Multilevel experiences of carceral violence in Los Angeles, California: first-hand accounts from a racially diverse sample of transgender women.

Transgender women face a disproportionate burden of carceral violence, or violence related to policing and the criminal legal system, with transgender women of colour experiencing even greater disparities. Several frameworks conceptualise the mechanisms through which violence impacts transgender women. However, none of them directly explore the role of carceral violence, particularly as it is experienced by transgender women themselves.

Balloon pulmonary angioplasty followed by pulmonary endarterectomy: Combination treatment for high-surgical-risk patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Objectives: Our goal was to evaluate the combined effects of balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) followed by pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) to treat high-surgical-risk patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH).

Methods: This study included 58 patients with CTEPH who had pulmonary vascular resistance of ≥1000 dyn·s/cm5, mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) of ≥45 mmHg or mPAP of 38-44 mmHg with comorbidities. Of these, 21 patients underwent the combined therapy of BPA followed by PEA (BPA group) and 37 underwent direct PEA (non-BPA group).

"The Fight is Two Times as Hard": A Qualitative Examination of a Violence Syndemic Among Young Black Sexual Minority Men.

Young Black men who have sex with men (YBMSM) are disproportionately impacted by violence, including violence rooted in anti-Black racism, sexual identity bullying, and neighborhood violence rooted in structural racism and inequities. These multiple forms of violence are frequently co-occurring and interactive creating syndemic conditions that can negatively impact HIV care. This qualitative study is based on in-depth interviews with 31 YBMSM, aged 16-30 years, living with HIV in Chicago, IL, to examine how violence has impacted their lives.

Catalysts informatics: paradigm shift towards data-driven catalyst design.
