The microfluidic droplet polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which enables simultaneous DNA amplification in numerous droplets, has led to the discovery of various applications that were previously deemed unattainable. Decades ago, it was demonstrated that the temperature holding periods at the denaturation and annealing stages in thermal cycles for PCR amplification could be essentially eliminated if a rapid change of temperature for an entire PCR mixture was achieved. Microfluidic devices facilitating the application of such fast thermocycling protocols have significantly reduced the time required for PCR.

Introduction: Intermuscular implantations of subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICD) have been recommended, but the position of the anterior border of the latissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) has not previously been evaluated in establishing an incision line to facilitate the intermuscular approach. The objective of this study is to evalua the position and trend of the anterior border of the LDM in patients who are candidates for implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.

Methods: The distance from the back to the anterior border of the LDM (A) and the anterior-posterior width of the chest wall (B) were measured on computed tomography retrospectively, and the ratio (=A/B) was used as the position of the anterior border of the LDM.

Background: March hemoglobinuria is caused by a hemolytic mechanism due to transient hematuria after physical exercise which, although rare, may lead to acute kidney injury. We report a case of a patient with march hemoglobinuria induced by kendo, which was diagnosed by the presence of Berlin blue iron staining in the proximal tubules through renal biopsy.

A young-male underwent radiofrequency (RF) ablation of ventricular premature contractions (VPCs) of over 30,000/day and the morphology exhibited left bundle branch block and a superior axis, which indicated the VPCs originated from the inferior portion of the right ventricle (RV). While the PENTARAY catheter was placed under the tricuspid valve (TV), the earliest potential, which preceded the QRS onset by 34 ms, was recorded. Pace mapping there presented a very similar QRS morphology to the target VPC.

A 28-year-old woman experienced gross hematuria after the administration of the second dose of an messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine (BNT162b2). She was diagnosed with Immunogloblin A nephropathy (IgAN) by a renal biopsy two weeks after vaccination, which revealed a mild increase in mesangial cells and a matrix with co-depositions of galactose-deficient IgA1 and C3 in the mesangial region. The gross hematuria and proteinuria gradually improved without any medication, suggesting that immune activation by the mRNA vaccine may not elicit continuous disease progression of IgAN.
