Article Synopsis
  • * The research included 115 T1DM patients and assessed their dietary habits, abdominal symptoms, and serum anti-tissue transglutaminase (TTG) antibody levels to diagnose CD.
  • * Results showed that 50.4% of patients reported abdominal symptoms, but none had elevated TTG levels, leading to the conclusion that the prevalence of CD in Japanese patients with T1DM is 0%, indicating a lower occurrence than seen in other countries.

It is difficult to manage postoperative blood glucose levels without hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in cardiac surgery patients even if continuous intravenous insulin infusion is used. Therefore, the insulin requirements for maintaining normoglycemia may be difficult to evaluate and need to be elucidated. In this single-center retrospective study, 30 adult patients (age 71.

Unlabelled: Perioperative hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, and high glycemic variability are independent risk factors for mortality in critically ill patients. After cardiac surgery, intensive glycemic control without hypoglycemia may help to reduce the number of adverse events; however, postoperative glycemic control is difficult in many cases. In this study, we investigated whether the bedside artificial pancreas STG-55 is useful for postoperative glycemic control in cardiac surgery.

Purpose: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are categorized as short- or long-acting types, but information regarding differences in the effects of these two types on postprandial glucose disposal has been limited. We have now investigated the effects of exenatide and liraglutide (short- and long-acting GLP-1RAs, respectively) on glucose disposal during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

Methods: Fourteen healthy volunteers with normal glucose tolerance underwent three OGTTs, which were performed without pharmacological intervention or after a single administration of exenatide or liraglutide at 30 min and 10 h, respectively, before test initiation.

Background: Recent experimental studies have revealed that n-3 fatty acids, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) regulate postprandial insulin secretion, and correct postprandial glucose and lipid abnormalities. However, the effects of 6-month EPA treatment on postprandial hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia, insulin secretion, and concomitant endothelial dysfunction remain unknown in patients with impaired glucose metabolism (IGM) and coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods And Results: We randomized 107 newly diagnosed IGM patients with CAD to receive either 1800 mg/day of EPA (EPA group, n = 53) or no EPA (n = 54).

Aims/hypothesis: We compared the effects of insulin degludec (IDeg; Des(B30)LysB29(γ-Glu Nε-hexadecandioyl) human insulin) and insulin glargine (IGlar; A21Gly,B31Arg,B32Arg human insulin) on the day-to-day variability of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels in individuals with type 1 diabetes treated with basal-bolus insulin injections.

Methods: The effects of basal-bolus insulin therapy for 4 weeks with either IDeg or IGlar as the basal insulin in adult C-peptide-negative outpatients with type 1 diabetes were investigated in an open-label, multicentre, randomised, crossover trial. Randomisation was conducted using a centralised allocation process.

To estimate the carbohydrate-to-insulin ratio (CIR), a formula dividing a constant, usually 300-500, by the total daily dose (TDD) of insulin, is widely utilized. An appropriate CIR varies for each meal of the day, however. Here, we investigate diurnal variation of CIR in hospitalized Japanese type 1 diabetic patients treated with continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion.

The amelioration of glucose tolerance by liraglutide was associated with a significant improvement of early insulin-response during OGTT. The serum C-peptide response to glucagon challenge strongly correlated with the improvement of the early insulin-response. The C-peptide response to glucagon challenge would be useful to predict therapeutic response to liraglutide.
