Cholesterol Crystal Embolism: Autopsy-proven Gastrointestinal Lesions, Pancreatitis, and End-stage Kidney Disease Which Developed after Undergoing Selective Abdominal Angiography.

A 78-year-old man with atherosclerosis was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma by transfemoral angiography of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries (SMA). After surgery, a serum examination revealed progressive renal failure with eosinophilia, leading to end-stage kidney disease, in addition to active gastric ulcers and pancreatitis. Cyanosis in the bilateral toes showed a cholesterol crystal embolism (CCE) in a skin biopsy.

Gait cycle time variability in patients with knee osteoarthritis and its possible associating factors.

[Purpose] Knee osteoarthritis can alter gait variability; however, few studies have investigated the associating factors with gait cycle time variability. The first objective was to compare gait cycle variability between female patients with knee osteoarthritis and healthy elderly females and to determine gait characteristics in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The second objective was to identify the associating factors with gait cycle time variability.

Molecular design of near-IR dyes with different surface energy for selective loading to the heterojunction in blend films.

We have synthesized three silicon phthalocyanine dyes with different hydrophobic substituents in order to control surface energy in the solid state, aiming at selective loading of the dyes into blend films of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and polystyrene (PS). These three dyes are differently located at P3HT domains, at P3HT/PS interface, and at PS domains, respectively, which are fully consistent with the locations predicted by the wetting coefficient derived from the surface energy of each material.

Photosensitized hydrogen evolution from water using a single-walled carbon nanotube/fullerodendron/SiO2 coaxial nanohybrid.

A coaxial nanohybrid consisting of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT), fullerodendron, and SiO(2) shows high-efficiency light-driven hydrogen evolution from water. Upon visible light irradiation, SWCNT/fullerodendron/SiO(2) coaxial nanohybrid shows hydrogen evolution activity in the presence of methyl viologen (MV(2+)), benzyldihydronicotinamide (BNAH), and a colloidal polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)-Pt.
