Objective: Acute appendicitis (AA) is the most common cause of acute abdomen and appendectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures. In this study, we aimed to compare open appendectomy (OA) and laparoscopic (LA) surgical techniques in the treatment of AA.

Methods: The data of 236 patients treated with the diagnosis of AA in 2019-2020 were analyzed.

Introduction: The availability of optimum diagnostic strategies remains a major problem in resource-constraint countries. This technique of patient-initiated follow-up (PIFU) has been recently adopted in the UK for gynecological cancers and has proven cost benefits. However, no study from the Indian subcontinent has ever been reported.

Introduction: At diagnosis, women with vulvar cancer often present in locally advanced stage especially in developing countries, owing to the associated ignorance and social stigma. Generally tumour is seen involving adjacent organs, like the vagina, anus, and urethra. Damage to the sphincter system leads to urinary incontinence.

Background:  The masseter vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (mVEMP) test evaluates the vestibulomasseteric reflex neural pathway between the sound-stimulated saccule hair cells and the motor neurons of the trigeminal nerve.

Purpose:  This study aims to investigate the contribution of mVEMP to the conclusive diagnosis of recurrent vestibulopathy patients that were diagnosed with Possible Meniere's disease.

Methods:  The study includes 20 healthy individuals aged 18 to 40 years and 20 patients that were diagnosed with Possible Meniere's disease according to the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS, 1995) Guidelines for the Definition of Meniere's Disease.

Article Synopsis
  • This study presents quantum reaction probabilities for N + NN collisions, focusing on inelastic and reactive processes at total angular momentum 0 and kinetic energies up to 4.5 eV.
  • The research utilizes ortho-NN species due to N's nuclear spin and examines the reactivity of -NN starting from rotational state 0.
  • The findings indicate that atom exchange reactions do not occur below 2.2 eV, with 2.0 eV being optimal for inelastic scattering, while around 5.0 eV leads to the production of excited vibrational levels in a newly formed NN isotopologue.

Histone modifying enzymes play a central role in maintaining cell identity by establishing a conducive chromatin environment for lineage specific transcription factor activity. Pluripotent embryonic stem cell (ESC) identity is characterized by a lower abundance of gene repression associated histone modifications that enables rapid response to differentiation cues. The KDM3 family of histone demethylases removes the repressive histone H3 lysine 9 dimethylation (H3K9me2).

This work emphasizes the appearance of non-adiabatic effects in the photoelectron spectra of AlN. It includes electronic structure calculations obtained on the first seven low-lying electronic states of AlN and a nuclear dynamics study utilizing time-dependent and time-independent quantum chemistry approaches. A model vibronic Hamiltonian is constructed in a diabatic electronic representation to estimate the coupling parameters corresponding to the fifteen vibrational modes of AlN.

Orthokeratinised odontogenic cyst (OOC) is a distinct and an uncommon odontogenic cyst of jaw. It was previously considered as orthokeratinized variant of Odontogenic Keratocyst, owing to its same site, age and occurrence and origin. In 2017 WHO classified OOC under odontogenic cysts as a distinct entity, clearly separating it from Odontogenic Keratocyst (OKC).

Although primary vulvovaginal reconstruction following vulvectomy has a significant chance of improving patient outcomes, flap reconstruction is not a recognised component of the accepted standard of care for vulvar cancer. We provide a case of a patient who underwent successful vulvar reconstruction using the extrapelvic vertical rectus abdominis myocutaneous (VRAM) flap. This musculocutaneous flap offers adequate coverage and bulk to the perineal defect after excision in post-irradiated vulvar cancer.

Thrombotic and microangiopathic effects have been reported in COVID-19 patients. This study examined the contribution of the hereditary thrombophilia factors Prothrombin (FII) and Factor V Leiden (FVL) genotypes to the severity of COVID-19 disease and the development of thrombosis. This study investigated FII and FVL alleles in a cohort of 9508 patients (2606 male and 6902 female) with thrombophilia.

Many companies switched to working from home (WFH) after the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper aimed to examine the changes in dietary behavior, body weight, sedentary lifestyle, and stress in individuals who practice WFH. A cross-sectional, web-based questionnaire was administered between March and May 2021 and included socio-demographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, WFH arrangement, changes in diet, sedentary lifestyle, and stress status.

Introduction Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (IHCP) is characterized by pruritus of the hand and sole with abnormal liver function test and bile acid metabolism. IHCP occurs in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and usually resolves after delivery. The overall prevalence is about 1.

Aim: The current study was carried out to assess the impact on the mechanical properties of orthodontic wires such as the nickel-titanium (NiTi) and copper-nickel-titanium (CuNiTi) wires by fluoride available in various prophylactic products.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-six wire specimens were randomly divided into two groups-control group in which deionized water was used as a medium and study group in which Phos-Flur gel was used. Both study group and control group were divided into two subgroups-NiTi wire group: 0.

Species composition and diversity dynamics of the actinomycetes was studied in five salt basins of arid and semi-arid areas of Rajasthan, India. A novel approach integrating molecular (16S rRNA gene) and diversity indices was applied to reveal species composition and diversity dynamics. Fifty-three actinomycetes isolates were isolated from five arid and semi-arid salt basins.

Twenty-six morphotypes of actinomycetes bacteria were isolated from the soils of arid zone of Indian Thar desert, Rajasthan. A significant and positive correlation was found between density of actinomycetes isolates and availability of nitrogen in sandy soil of arid zone suggesting the influence of soil nitrogen on occurrence and propagation of actinomycetes in this region. Molecular identification based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that the bacterial isolates belong to four actinomycetes genera, viz.

Monogenic lupus is a subset of lupus caused by single-gene disorders, integrating the paradoxical combination of autoimmunity and immunodeficiency. Pulmonary manifestations with recurrent pneumonia and bronchiectasis have rarely been described as the predominant presentation of juvenile lupus and may suggest an alternate differential like primary immunodeficiency, especially in early childhood. We describe a case of 10-year girl who presented with a history of recurrent pneumonia, arthritis, alopecia, and poor weight gain for the past 2 years.

Eleven highly conserved proteins comprise the poxvirus entry-fusion complex (EFC). We focused on vaccinia virus (VACV) O3, a 35-amino acid, largely hydrophobic component of unknown specific function. Experimental evolution was carried out by blindly passaging a virus that was severely impaired in entry due to deletion of the gene encoding O3.

Context: The outbreak and spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has led to a global exigency of colossal and monstrous proportions in terms of public health and economic crisis. Till date, no pharmaceutical agent is known to manage in terms of prevention and treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the disease caused by a novel virus.

Aims: The aim of the present work was to understand the underlying disease profile and dynamics that could provide relevant inputs and insight into pathophysiology and prevent further spread and evolve management strategies of COVID-19 patients from data-driven techniques.
