The study investigated the effect of different temperatures on the growth, pigment production, oxidative stress markers, and antioxidant profile of Spirulina spp. The results showed that the maximum growth of Spirulina was observed at 20°C, while the chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoid contents decreased at higher temperatures. Additionally, the concentration of oxidants such as MDA and H2O2 increased with temperature, while the concentration of antioxidants such as SOD, POD, and APX also increased with temperature.

Brucellosis is a major threat to public health especially in developing countries including Pakistan. This study reveals the characterisation of Brucella species affecting humans and goats in the Swat region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Blood samples were collected from shepherds and goats and analysed by Rose Bengal precipitation test (RBPT), standard plate agglutination test (SPAT), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Sanger sequencing of 16S rRNA gene.

Aim: To investigate the genetic basis of autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (arRP) in two consanguineous/ endogamous Pakistani families.

Methods: Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed on genomic DNA samples of patients with arRP to identify disease causing mutations. Sanger sequencing was performed to confirm familial segregation of identified mutations, and potential pathogenicity was determined by predictions of the mutations' functions.

Article Synopsis
  • Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) offer a novel way to use solar power in buildings, enhancing integration with photovoltaics.
  • The study focuses on thin-film LSCs using a specific fluorophore (DACT-II) and compares the effects of two polymers—polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PBzMA)—on their performance.
  • Results indicate that LSCs with DACT-II embedded in PBzMA outperform those in PMMA, achieving optical conversion efficiency of 2.32% and power-conversion efficiency of 0.33%, which is about 1.2 times greater than in PMMA.
