Optimizing Outcomes for Mechanically Ventilated Patients in an Era of Endovascular Acute Ischemic Stroke Therapy.

Endovascular mechanical thrombectomy is a new standard of care for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The majority of these patients receive mechanical ventilation (MV), which has been associated with poor outcomes. The implication of this is significant, as most neurointerventionalists prefer general compared to local anesthesia during the procedure.

Comparison of the C-MAC video laryngoscope to a flexible fiberoptic scope for intubation with cervical spine immobilization.

Study Objective: To compare the C-MAC video laryngoscope to the standard flexible fiberoptic scope (FFS) with an eye piece (but without a camera or a video screen) for intubation of patients undergoing cervical spine surgery with manual inline stabilization. The primary end point was the time to achieve successful tracheal intubation. Secondary end points included glottic view at intubation and number of intubation attempts.

Hemodynamic Consequences of Laparoscopy for Patients on Mechanical Circulatory Support.

Background: Technologic advances and superior survival with mechanical circulatory support (MCS) have led to an expanding population that develops intraabdominal conditions requiring intervention. Whether laparoscopy can be performed without detrimental effects on hemodynamics and device function is not well described.

Materials And Methods: Effects of laparoscopy performed on MCS were retrospectively assessed.

Introduction: Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) after cardiac arrest (CA) resuscitation is the first therapy proven to increase survival to discharge and neurologic recovery. Methods for neurologic and mortality prognostication after CA resuscitation have been called into question because they were developed based on evidence that was developed prior to the advent of TH. This study examines the relationship between electroencephalogram (EEG) patterns and mortality and neurologic outcomes in post-CA patients undergoing TH.
