Portrait of training and worker health surveillance actions in Santa Catarina.

Introduction: Since 2005, the Centro de Referência em Saúde do Trabalhador in the state of Santa Catarina has promoted several training in Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador for public health inspectors in the state, so that they can intervene in potentially sick work environments.

Objectives: To evaluate the Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador actions carried out by the health surveillance agencies of the state of Santa Catarina and to verify the perception of inspectors regarding the technical preparation for the performance.

Methods: Sample: 257 inspectors from 134 municipalities.

The work in the production of animal protein in slaughterhouses involves the exposure to several occupational risk factors. At present, it has been recently associated with the pandemic context related to the biological agent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The slaughterhouse sector has been shown to be a critical focus of concentration and spread of cases in Brazil and worldwide.

Functional health and perceived exertion in artisanal fishermen working offshore.

Introduction: Fishing is a common means of obtaining raw materials for the food industry and drives a large economic market.

Objectives: This field study aimed to evaluate functional health and work overload in artisanal fishermen.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 42 workers from Zone 18 fishing community in Passo de Torres, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil.
