Introduction: Understanding behaviour of cancer survivors is imperative as they are at risk of recurrence or second cancers. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers globally. We aim to determine the uptake rate, barriers and predictors of CRC screening among cancer survivors.

Background: Loss and grief are experienced by caregivers of persons with dementia (PWD), relating to the ambiguous loss of PWD even when they are still alive and the anticipation of future loss related to their physical death. Such experience of caregiver grief is not easily recognized in clinical practice, despite its association with adverse effects such as caregiver burden, caregiver depression and caregivers' desire to place the PWD in nursing homes. We constructed a simple screening tool - based on factors associated with caregiver grief - to identify caregivers with high grief.

We show numerically that under certain conditions noise-induced soliton self-mode conversion dominates over soliton self-frequency shift for a soliton in a high order spatial mode of a multimode optical fiber. The input soliton has to be group index matched to a lower order mode for a frequency separation for which the Raman gain is non-negligible, and this condition determines the wavelength of the pulse growing from noise. The phenomenon has no known analogs in single-mode or graded-index fibers.

Background: Oncogenic insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II) is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The present study aimed to analyze the dynamic alteration of IGF-II CpG site methylation status and its molecular mechanism in HCC progression.

Methods: IGF-II alterations were observed in rat hepatocarcinogenesis models induced by 2-acetylaminofluorene.

Objectives: Caregivers of persons with dementia can experience loss and grief long before the death of the person. Although the phenomenon of caregiver grief has been increasingly described, it is uncertain if caregiver grief has independent effects-separate from the well-studied construct of caregiver burden-on adverse outcomes such as caregiver depression. We sought to compare the effects of baseline grief and burden on caregiver depression at baseline and 2.

Background: Radical surgery with adjuvant therapy is now the standard treatment for locally advanced gastric cancer. However, the best regimen for adjuvant therapy remains controversial. We aim to determine the predictors of survival outcome of gastric cancer patients who underwent curative surgery with or without adjuvant therapy in our institution.

Background: Axial spondyloarthritis (AxSpA) is a chronic disease which results in fatigue, pain, and reduced quality of life (QoL). Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), especially acupuncture, has shown promise in managing pain. Although a TCM collaborative model of care (TCMCMC) has been studied in cancer, there are no randomized controlled trials investigating TCM in AxSpA.

Context And Purpose: Measurement-based care (MBC) is an evidence-based health-care practice in which indicators of disease are tracked to inform clinical actions, provide feedback to patients and improve outcomes. The current opioid crisis in multiple countries provides a pressing rationale for adopting a basic MBC approach for opioid use disorder (OUD) using DSM-5 to increase treatment retention and effectiveness.

Proposal: To stimulate debate, we propose a basic MBC approach using the 11 symptoms of OUD (DSM-5) to inform the delivery of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD; including methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone) and their evaluation in office-based primary care and specialist clinics.

Background & Aims: Asians with similar body mass index (BMI) as the Caucasians are at higher health risk as compared to their counterparts. Although the mean weight of patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) is increasing but the relation between BMI with 28-day mortality and length of stay (LOS) following ICU discharge in Asian patients is not well studied.

Methods: We included all adult patients admitted to the ICU of a tertiary hospital who received mechanical ventilation (MV) for at least 48 hours between October 2013 and September 2014.

Background: Caregivers of persons with dementia (PWD) can experience loss and grief long before the death of the person. While such phenomenon of pre-death grief (PDG) has been increasingly described, we are uncertain how it can be distinct from the well-studied construct of caregiver burden.

Objective: To determine whether there are differences in the risk factors of PDG and caregiver burden to aid in our understanding of the relationship between the two constructs.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored changes in sleep apnea severity and heart function in patients after suffering a STEMI (heart attack), finding significant improvements in both the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) over six months.
  • The research involved 101 STEMI patients who underwent sleep and echocardiography studies shortly after admission and at a six-month follow-up, revealing a notable shift in sleep apnea types among patients.
  • The findings suggest that sleep apnea evaluations at admission are useful for diagnosis, but patients with sleep apnea types should be re-evaluated after six months due to possible changes in their condition.

Emergency clinicians are on the front lines of responding to the opioid epidemic and are leading innovations to reduce opioid overdose deaths through safer prescribing, harm reduction, and improved linkage to outpatient treatment. Currently, there are no nationally recognized quality measures or best practices to guide emergency department quality improvement efforts, implementation science researchers, or policymakers seeking to reduce opioid-associated morbidity and mortality. To address this gap, in May 2017, the National Institute on Drug Abuse's Center for the Clinical Trials Network convened experts in quality measurement from the American College of Emergency Physicians' (ACEP's) Clinical Emergency Data Registry, researchers in emergency and addiction medicine, and representatives from federal agencies, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Objective: To evaluate the use of oral health services, the economic burden of oral diseases and related influential factors in China.

Method: Using the multistage, stratified, equal proportion, random sampling method in the 4th National Oral Health Survey of China conducted in 2015 to 2016, residents aged 3 to 5 years, 12 to 15 years, 35 to 44 years, 55 to 64 years, and 65 to 74 years respectively were recruited, clinically examined and answered a questionnaire. Utilisation of oral health services were assessed in all the age groups and the economic burden of oral diseases in the past 12 months were assessed in the 3 to 5 years and 35 to 74 year-old groups.
