The mouse intron-nested gene, Israa, is expressed in the lymphoid organs and involved in T-cell activation and signaling.

We have previously reported Israa, immune-system-released activating agent, as a novel gene nested in intron 8 of the mouse Zmiz1 gene. We have also shown that Israa encodes for a novel FYN-binding protein and might be involved in the regulation of T-cell activation. In this report, we demonstrate that Israa gene product regulates the expression of a pool of genes involved in T-cell activation and signaling.

Methods: RENAMI was a retrospective, observational registry including the data and outcomes of consecutive patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who underwent primary PCI and were discharged with dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) between January 2012 and January 2016.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an endemic disease in animals and humans in Egypt. This study aims to investigate the antimycobacterial activity of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs) by determining the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of AgNPs, using the microplate Alamar blue assay. The AgNPs were chemically synthesised and their form and size were characterised by ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.

Supercritical fluid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry for the analysis of pesticide residues in dried spices. Benefits and drawbacks.

This study describes the high sensitivity and the reduced ion suppression and matrix effect that can be achieved by supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) in the analysis of dried spices as complex matrices. Samples selected for the evaluation were cayenne and black pepper, which are representative of complex dried spices. To carry out the evaluation of this technique, blank samples were fortified with a solution containing 162 pesticides at two concentration levels (50 and 200 μg kg).

Evaluation of radial nerve continuity early after humeral shaft fracture fixation using high-resolution nerve ultrasonography: a pilot study of feasibility.

Background: This study evaluated the feasibility and reliability of high-resolution ultrasonography (HRUS) of the radial nerve in the early, postoperative period after operative stabilization of humeral shaft fractures.

Methods: This study enrolled patients between September 2015 and April 2018 with a humeral shaft fracture who were assessed with HRUS within 2 weeks after surgery. Based on the ultrasound artifacts, the examiners subjectively defined quality of ultrasound as "bad" or "good.

Clinical and radiographic evaluation of Biodentine and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate in revascularization of non-vital immature permanent anterior teeth (randomized clinical study).

Objective: To asses clinically and radiographically the effect of using two types of coronal plug materials in revascularization of non-vital immature teeth.

Methods: A total of 26 necrotic immature permanent anterior teeth were enrolled for pulp revascularization using a double antibiotic mix for root canal disinfection. They were randomly divided into the following based on coronal plug materials used: Biodentine (Group I) and white Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (Group II; n = 13).

Surgical management of eumycetoma: experience from Gezira Mycetoma Center, Sudan.

Background: In this study, we share our experience of different operative techniques undertaken on 584 eumycetoma patients in the Gezira Mycetoma Center.

Methods: This is a retrospective, descriptive, hospital-based study, conducted to review the surgical treatment of eumycetoma patients. We included all patients diagnosed with eumycetoma who underwent a surgical operation in the center during January 2013-December 2016.

Associations between ApoE gene and psychological consequences post stroke in a Bahraini cohort.

Background: The contribution of genetic factors such as the presence of ApoE allele e4 and its association with psychological consequences post stroke remains unknown within Middle-Eastern regions. This study examined the association of ApoE genotype with cognitive impairment and mood in stroke patients and compare with healthy older adults in Bahrain.

Method: A prospective sample of n = 62 stroke patients (case group) and n = 53 healthy ageing individuals (control group) were eligible to participate in the study.

Distinct HLA class I and II genotypes and haplotypes are associated with multiple sclerosis in Bahrain.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) has become prevalent in the Arabian Gulf area with high incidence in Bahrain due to environmental influences and genetic susceptibilities, but there is a lack of study into human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types in patients with MS in Bahrain. The present study aimed to study the HLA types expressed in MS patients compared with in control subjects. Blood samples from 50 Bahraini patients with MS and 50 Bahraini control subjects' were subjected to HLA tissue typing by polymerase chain reaction using sequence-specific primers.

On the impact of ethanol on the rejection and transfer mechanism during ultrafiltration of a charged macromolecule in water/ethanol.

Ultrafiltration (UF) is a sustainable membrane separation technique. It could be useful for the concentration/purification of bio-sourced molecules that are extracted either by pure ethanol or by water/ethanol mixtures. Nevertheless, the process optimization requires an in-depth understanding of the transfer mechanisms of solute through membranes, especially for charged solutes, that are nowadays not sufficiently documented.

Curcumin⁻Copper Complex Nanoparticles for the Management of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among females worldwide. Although breast cancer survival has largely improved in the past 30 years, it remains highly heterogeneous in its response to treatment. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a subtype of breast cancer that lacks the expression of the estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (Her2).

Synthetic cannabinoids nano-micelles for the management of triple negative breast cancer.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly heterogeneous disease with poor prognosis and inadequate therapeutic outcome. This contribution reports the use of a cannabinoid derivative, WIN55,212-2 (WIN) on the growth of TNBC in a 4T1 syngeneic mouse model. To reduce the well-known psychoactive side effects of cannabinoids, we prepared a nanomicellar formulation of WIN (SMA-WIN).

Intra-familial phenotypic heterogeneity in a Sudanese family with DARS2-related leukoencephalopathy, brainstem and spinal cord involvement and lactate elevation: a case report.

Background: Leukoencephalopathy with brainstem and spinal cord involvement and lactate elevation (LBSL, OMIM #611105) is a genetic disease of the central nervous system characterized by lower limb spasticity, cerebellar ataxia and involvement of the dorsal column. The disease is caused by mutations in the DARS2 gene but has never been reported in sub-Saharan Africa so far.

Case Presentation: Two siblings, aged 18 years and 15 years, from a consanguineous family presented with pyramidal signs and symptoms since infancy and developmental delay.

High dose dexamethasone as an alternative rescue therapy for active bleeding in children with chronic ITP: clinical and immunological effects.

High-dose dexamethasone (HD-DXM) is debated as a second-line therapy for chronic Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in children. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of HD-DXM as an emergency therapy in uncontrolled bleeding in children with chronic ITP and to assess its immunological effect on dendritic cells (DCs) percentage and their co-stimulatory markers CD86 and CD83. Totally, 20 children previously diagnosed as chronic ITP were enrolled in this study and all admitted to hospital with uncontrolled bleeding.

Evaluating comparative effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for persons receiving opioid agonist therapy for opioid use disorder: protocol for a systematic review.

Introduction: The opioid crisis has resulted in increasing rates of death caused by problematic opioid use. Current clinical guidelines recommend that individuals with persons with opioid use disorder (OUD) receive pharmacological (eg, opioid agonist therapy) and psychosocial (eg, cognitive behavioural therapy) therapy; however, the best combination of pharmacologic and psychosocial components is not known. Our objective of the planned study is to conduct a comprehensive systematic review to assess the relative benefits of psychosocial interventions as an adjunct to opioid agonist therapy among persons with OUD.

Multilocus sequence typing of Carnobacterium maltaromaticum strains associated with fish disease and dairy products.

Aims: Carnobacterium maltaromaticum is a lactic acid bacterium of technological interest in the field of dairy ripening and food bioprotection and is generally recognized as safe in the United States. As it is associated with fish infections, the European Food Safety Agency did not include this species in the qualified presumption safety list of micro-organisms. This implies that the risk assessment for the species has to be performed at the strain level.

Prasugrel or ticagrelor in patients with acute coronary syndrome and diabetes: a propensity matched substudy of RENAMI.

Introduction: The safety and efficacy of prasugrel and ticagrelor in patients with diabetes mellitus presenting with acute coronary syndrome and treated with percutaneous coronary intervention remain to be assessed.

Methods: All diabetes patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome and enrolled in the REgistry of New Antiplatelets in patients with Myocardial Infarction (RENAMI) were compared before and after propensity score matching. Net adverse cardiovascular events (composite of death, stroke, myocardial infarction and BARC 3-5 bleedings) and major adverse cardiovascular events (composite of death, stroke and myocardial infarction) were the co-primary endpoints.

Antioxidant and antibacterial activities of bioactive peptides in buffalo's yoghurt fermented with different starter cultures.

The effect of 20552 ATCC (T2) or CH 5 (T3) in combination with yoghurt starter (1:1) on the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of the bioactive peptides present in buffalo's yoghurt was studied. The SDS-PAGE results indicate that all caseins were completely hydrolyzed by both strains, whereas whey protein fractions were still present. All starter cultures have the ability to produce low-molecular-weight bioactive peptides, most of which were originated from β-casein and fewer from αs casein.

Human Leukocyte Antigen-G (HLA-G) Expression in Precancerous and Cancerous Cervical Lesions: Association with Human Papilloma Virus Infection and Host Immune Response.

Human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) is a non-classical HLA-class Ib molecule with multiple immunoregulatory properties. Its main functions in physiological conditions are to abolish maternal immune cell activity against fetus and to establish immune tolerance at the maternal-fetal interface. Cervical tumor cells have been reported to express HLA-G which is one of the immunomodulatory molecules that is involved in every phase of cancer immunoediting.

Radial and femoral access for interventional fellows performing diagnostic coronary angiographies: the LEARN-Cardiogroup II, a prospective multicenter study.

Background: Safety and efficacy of radial and femoral access for coronary angiography performed by cardiology fellows remain to be evaluated.

Methods: In this multicenter prospective study, cardiology fellows selected the access site (among femoral, right and left radial artery) for coronary angiography. All bleeding events related to the access site and all complications (a composite of all bleedings and artery occlusion) were the co-primary safety end points.

Filterability of exopolysaccharides solutions from the red microalga by tangential filtration on a polymeric membrane.

The red microalga is exploited industrially for its exopolysaccharides (EPS) and pigments production. EPS produced by are partially released and dissolved into the surrounding environment, they can be recovered from the culture medium after removing the cells. This paper presents a parametric study of the ultrafiltration of EPS solutions on organic membrane.
