Investigating the Mechanical Behavior and Energy Absorption Characteristics of Empty and Foam-Filled Glass/Epoxy Composite Sections under Lateral Indentation.

In this study, the crashworthiness behavior and energy absorption capacity of composite tubes under lateral indentation by steel rods aligned parallel to the specimen axis are investigated using experimental methods. Key parameters such as tube diameter, length, wall thickness, and indenter diameter are systematically examined and compared. Additionally, the influence of polyurethane foam fillers on damage modes and energy absorption capacity is rigorously analyzed.

Comparative Analysis of Machine Learning Models for Predicting the Mechanical Behavior of Bio-Based Cellular Composite Sandwich Structures.

The growing demand for sustainable materials has significantly increased interest in biocomposites, which are made from renewable raw materials and have excellent mechanical properties. The use of machine learning (ML) can improve our understanding of their mechanical behavior while saving costs and time. In this study, the mechanical behavior of innovative biocomposite sandwich structures under quasi-static out-of-plane compression was investigated using ML algorithms to analyze the effects of geometric variations on load-bearing capacities.

Objective: The variations in the single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the fat mass and obesity (FTO)-associated gene have been linked to being overweight or obese in children. In this research a thorough examination was performed to elucidate the connection between various FTO gene SNPs and overweight or obesity in children and adolescents.

Method: We searched PubMed, Google scholar, Web of Science and Scopus until January 2024 to find studies that investigate the association between different SNPs of FTO gene and the risk of overweight/obesity in children and adolescents.

Myofibroblasts (MYFs) are generally considered the principal culprits in excessive extracellular matrix deposition and scar formation in the pathogenesis of lung fibrosis. Lipofibroblasts (LIFs), on the other hand, are defined by their lipid-storing capacity and are predominantly found in the alveolar regions of the lung. They have been proposed to play a protective role in lung fibrosis.

Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a leading cause of irreversible visual impairment in the elderly. The current management of nAMD is limited and involves regular intravitreal administration of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF). However, the effectiveness of these treatments is limited by overlapping and compensatory pathways leading to unresponsiveness to anti-VEGF treatments in a significant portion of nAMD patients.

Massive Uveal Relapse of Retinoblastoma Presumed to Be Choroidal Tumorous Involvement: Case Series.

We report the choroidal and ciliary body invasion by retinoblastoma (RB) in a salvaged eye after complete and successful primary treatment. Case 1: A 25-month-old boy was referred due to group B RB lesions based on the International Classification of RB (ICRB; groups A-E) in the right eye (OD). His left eye (OS) was enucleated because of advanced group E RB.

Magnetic hydrogel applications in articular cartilage tissue engineering.

Articular cartilage defects afflict millions of individuals worldwide, presenting a significant challenge due to the tissue's limited self-repair capability and anisotropic nature. Hydrogel-based biomaterials have emerged as promising candidates for scaffold production in artificial cartilage construction, owing to their water-rich composition, biocompatibility, and tunable properties. Nevertheless, conventional hydrogels typically lack the anisotropic structure inherent to natural cartilage, impeding their clinical and preclinical applications.

Long and Short-term Metformin Consumption as a Potential Therapy to Prevent Complications of COVID-19.

Methods: This was a randomized clinical trial that involved 189 patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection. Patients in the intervention group received metformin-500 mg twice daily.

Genetic diversity of isolates from northwest of Iran during COVID-19 era.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is considered one of the most infectious diseases in the world. In this study, we intended to examine the epidemiology of tuberculosis by MIRU-VNTR to define the changes that occur in the transmission of tuberculosis in the region during the COVID-19 era. A total of 120 isolates were collected from sputum samples of patients referred to East Azerbaijan Center TB from December 2020 to August 2021.

Probabilistic risk assessment of exposure to multiple mycotoxins in consumers of packaged and unpackaged spices in Iran.

The current study assessed the risk posed to Iranian consumers by oral exposure to a mixture of ten mycotoxins in 138 packaged and unpackaged spices collected from the Iran market. Concentrations of mycotoxins in samples were quantified by liquid chromatography, tandem mass spectrometry with triple quadrupole, and ion trap. Probabilistic health risks of oral exposure to these mycotoxins for Iranians were assessed under percent tolerable daily intake (TDI) and cancer risk scenarios.

Structural and functional recovery from stress-induced depression is impaired in the context of aging brain. Since investigating the molecular substrates that facilitate behavioral recovery may have important implications for understanding brain plasticity and resilience of individuals, we studied depressive-like behaviors in young and aged rats 6 weeks after chronic stress exposure as a recovery period and examined the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 inflammatory cytokines, NADH oxidase activity, NADPH oxidase, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress markers, and apoptosis in the hippocampus. Young (3 months old) and aged (22 months old) male Wistar rats were divided into four groups; young control (Young), depression model of young rats that received chronic stress procedure followed by a 6-week recovery period (Young+S), aged control (Aged), and depression model of aged rats that received chronic stress procedure followed by a 6-week recovery period (Aged+S).

Aim: Mutations in KRAS, NRAS, BRAF, and PIK3CA genes are critical factors in clinical evaluation of colorectal cancer (CRC) development and progression. In Iran, however, the data regarding genetic profile of CRC patients is limited except for KRAS exon2 and BRAF V600F mutations. This study aimed to investigate the mutational spectrum and prognostic effects of these genes and explore the relationship between these mutations and clinicopathological features of CRC.

In the current experiment, impact of iron coating on the antimicrobial potency of AgNPs was investigated against methicillin-resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). To obtain more accurate data about the antimicrobial potency of examined nanostructures, the experiment was done on the 10 isolates of MRSA which were isolated from skin lesions.
