Renal dysfunction due to ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a common problem after kidney transplantation. In recent years, studies on animal models have shown that exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-Exo) play an important role in treating acute kidney injury (AKI) and promoting tissue repair. The microneedle patch provides a noninvasive and targeted delivery system for exosomes.

Closing the Gap: The Need for Fertility Intervention for Young Adult Cancer Survivors.

The current study identified the fertility-related needs of young adult (YA; ages 19-39) survivors. Participants ( = 94) completed the Adolescent and Young Adult Survivorship Psycho-Oncology Screening Tool-a screening tool developed to assess cancer-related concerns of YAs in survivorship. Approximately one-third of survivors endorsed fertility-related concerns.

Nondilated left ventricular cardiomyopathy (NDLVC) is a newly defined category of cardiomyopathy. We sought to evaluate and compare the phenotype of NDLVC with DCM using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging and to investigate the prognostic significance of these conditions. One hundred and fifty patients suspected of having cardiomyopathy referred for CMR were recruited.

Background: Laparoscopic anterior resection (LAR) with Natural Orifice Specimen Extraction (NOSE) has shown benefits such as reduced pain, fewer wound complications, and improved cosmesis. In colorectal anastomosis during NOSE, double staple anastomosis (DSA) and triple stapled technique (TSA) are common. However, a novel single stapled anastomosis (SSA) technique, utilising two laparoscopically placed purse strings and only four 5 mm ports, has emerged.

Psychometric properties of the Iranian version of the polycystic ovary syndrome quality of life questionnaire for married and unmarried women with PCOS: PCOSQoL-47 and PCOSQoL-42.

Introduction: The incidence of PCOS is notably elevated in Iran, making it crucial to examine the quality of life among these individuals. This study aimed to thoroughly evaluate the psychometric properties of the Iranian adaptations of the PCOSQoL-47 and PCOSQoL-42 questionnaires. The application of these tools is significant as they could enhance further research in in communities with similar social norms concerning marriage and sexuality.

Pharmacological considerations in pharmacotherapy of rheumatology patients with liver disease: a brief narrative review.

The presence of chronic liver diseases such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatosis liver disease, viral hepatitis, and cirrhosis may affect the treatment plan in patients with rheumatologic disorders, with concern about the adverse effects of the rheumatic medications on the course of liver disease. Advanced liver disease can change the elimination and activation of many drugs. In addition, there are concerns about the risk of viral reactivation after using biologics and immunosuppressants in patients with chronic viral hepatitis.

Uncovering the effects of pandemic conditions on hearing aid experiences: a dual perspective from audiologists and hearing aid users.

This study examines the effects of the pandemic on hearing aid experiences from the perspectives of audiologists and patients, as well as communication challenges faced by both users and non-users of hearing aids. The study consisted of two phases: a longitudinal study examining the services provided by audiologists during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and after the first vaccination dose. The second phase involved a survey of 120 elderly individuals with hearing loss, divided into hearing aid users and non-users for assessing communication challenges.

The Stop the Bleed campaign gives bystanders an active role in prehospital hemorrhage control. Whether extending bystanders' role to private vehicle transport (PVT) for urban penetrating trauma improves survival is unknown, but past research has found benefit to police and PVT. We hypothesized that for penetrating trauma in an urban environment, where prehospital procedures have been proven harmful, PVT improves outcomes compared to any EMS or advanced life support (ALS) transport.

Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta in the patient with obesity.

Background: Palpation of anatomic landmarks is difficult in patients with obesity, which could increase difficulty of achieving femoral access and resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) placement. The primary aim of this study was to examine the association between obesity and successful REBOA placement. We hypothesized that higher body mass index (BMI) would decrease first-attempt success and increase time to successful aortic occlusion (AO).

In the current study, a core-shell inorganic nanostructure comprising a gold nanorod core and -mesoporous manganese dioxide shell was synthesized. Then, the mesoporous manganese dioxide shell was loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) and then coated with pluronic F127 and pluronic F127-folic acid conjugate (1.5:1 wt ratio of pluronic F127: pluronic F127-folic acid conjugate) to prepare targeted final platform.

There is limited information regarding the influence of social determinants of health, such as food insecurity (FI) on firearm homicide mortality (FHM) in major metropolitan cities in the US. We sought to examine the relationship between FI and FHM.

Building a Self-Sustaining Psychology Research Team in Academic Medicine: A Multi-Tiered Mentorship Model.

Psychologists in academic medicine face pressure to juggle multiple roles, and research is often limited by a lack of available resources and funding. In other academic settings, student-led psychology research teams that utilize a tiered mentorship approach are able to produce advances in meaningful research while supporting the development of future professionals in the field. This article identifies the barriers of implementing a tiered mentorship model into an academic medicine setting and reviews a case study of how the model can be effectively adapted and evaluated to promote a self-sustaining, student-led psychology research team.

Potential of Natural Products in the Treatment of Glioma: Focus on Molecular Mechanisms.

Despite the waning of traditional treatments for glioma due to possible long-term issues, the healing possibilities of substances derived from nature have been reignited in the scientific community. These natural substances, commonly found in fruits and vegetables, are considered potential alternatives to pharmaceuticals, as they have been shown in prior research to impact pathways surrounding cancer progression, metastases, invasion, and resistance. This review will explore the supposed molecular mechanisms of different natural components, such as berberine, curcumin, coffee, resveratrol, epigallocatechin-3-gallate, quercetin, tanshinone, silymarin, coumarin, and lycopene, concerning glioma treatment.

Tranexamic Acid and Pulmonary Complications: A Secondary Analysis of an EAST Multicenter Trial.

Background: Anti-inflammatory effects of tranexamic acid (TXA) in reducing trauma endotheliopathy may protect from acute lung injury. Clinical data showing this benefit in trauma patients is lacking.
