Orthognathic surgery in patients with lip and palate clefts is challenging owing to scar tissue from primary repairs and severe deformities. In this study, we evaluated the stability of Le Fort I osteotomy with intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) in patients with cleft lip and palate using 3-dimensional (3D) analysis. This retrospective study comprised 14 cleft lip and palate patients (3 females, 11 males; the average age at surgery: 23.

Carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT) is on the rise as a treatment choice for malignant tumor. Compared to conventional radiotherapy, particle beams have different physical and biological properties. Particle beam provides a low entry dose, deposits most of the energy at the endpoint of the flight path, and forms an asymptotic dose peak (the "Bragg peak").

The performances of serpentine and parallel designs are compared. The current density and overpotential distribution are analyzed, and the volume fractions of oxygen and hydrogen velocity are studied to verify their influence on the current density.

A 60 nm-thick polyurea thin film exhibited a high dielectric constant of 5.82 and excellent electrical insulating properties owing to strong hydrogen bonding.

To create sites for surface modification with SAM materials on polyimide-based OGI (KPI) surfaces, the metal-oxide interlayer, here amorphous alumina (α-AlO), was deposited on the KPI gate insulator using spin-coating via a rapid sol-gel reaction, providing an excellent template for the formation of a high-quality SAM with phosphonic acid anchor groups. The SAM of octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA) was successfully treated by spin-coating onto the α-AlO-deposited KPI film.

This study was designed to summarize the recent scientific knowledge regarding the anti-obesity role of curcumin (diferuloylmethane), which is isolated from the herb curcuma longa, known to possess anti-inflammatory activities. However, little is known about its exact underlying molecular mechanisms in the treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases.

Thus, the addition of chlorine into an advanced water treatment process using a hybrid of adsorption and ultrafiltration (UF) was investigated in terms of natural organic matter (NOM) removal and membrane permeability. A comparison between two adsorbents, iron oxide particles (IOP) and powdered activated carbon (PAC), was made to understand the sorption behavior for NOM with and without chlorination.
